Hope this question isn't too unusual. Can anyone remember a school chemistry experiment where Ionisation was demonstrated?
I think it was two metal rods attached to a battery and then the rods put into a solution. The solution was of the mineral which was required to stick to the rods, eg salt, iron filings, whatever. What metal are the rods and how powerful the battery? I've been trying to find an 'Amateur Chemists' User Group but no luck.
Grateful for any comments. Thank you.

I remember the boys flushing optassium down the toilet, and screaming out "Run!" while fleeing from the scene of the crime, before the big kaboom!

What a thread to make a comeback in, but anyway, copper rods would be good, and 3 volts should see you right, 2 1.5 AA batteries can be used. Right thats enough chemistry for tonight.

Copper is usually used in high school conductivity experiments, from what I remember.
