I have no desire to bring this debate up again, I'm just looking for votes, but Bullet and I have a bet about whether or not gender has an impact on what people think of the death penalty. Don't let me down, gang!! I'll tell you my opinion after I see what results I get. Thanks!!

BR, when you post a new thread, you check that you want to create a poll on the bottom below the written thread, then select how many options. (up to 10) You submit it, and then the poll should come up. Fill it out, and punch it again. Try again with another thread.

I just told him the results so far, but I can't tell you his reaction or it will give away the bet we have. I want to keep this as fair as possible, so that when I win, it will be legitimate and I can gloat righteously.

The poll is not going exactly as I had planned, frankly. I'm wondering why certain members can't vote. I am going to put in a thread to Tombstone in the Problems and feedback forum to find out why. You shouldn't have to be a supporting member to vote in a poll.

Hey, LD, what are you seeing above the opening thread? I'm trying to figure out why certain members can't vote. There's no circle for you to click your choice, or what?

BR, it says you cannot vote in this poll.

Polls only let supporting members do that, and I think your question to Tombstone is a great one. Everyone should be able to vote.

Let me try editing my original post, maybe it's something I did.

OK, edited to add: I tried to go back and see if it was something I did when creating the poll, but nothing allows me to change anything when I go to edit except the text. I'm sure Tombstone will be along shortly to shed some light on this.

If you let non-members vote, a person could force the result they wanted the poll to have by having their friends log in and vote. Not that "I" think anyone here would do such a thing. Oh, no. Not I.

Male here, & I am in favor of the death penalty. An eye for an eye, If you kill me, then mine kill you!

PS: My Supporting Member" account expired a few weeks ago & I didn't notice it, but did notice I could not vote in polls. That's how I found it it expired, so I became a "Supporting Member" again last week, & today I was able to "vote" for the Death penalty.

I voted against. And I'm wondering if another variable is nationality? The 3 posts on this thread from females that state "against" are from female Brits.

That would make an interesting poll, taking into account the nationalities. See what BR has to say when she checks out the results.

When it comes to debating the Death Penalty, the most interesting thing that stands out for me is that it is often those who claim to believe in 'God' who like to play God.

FACT: Only 25 nations carry out capital punishment; of those, in 2004 four (China, Iran, Vietnam and the US) accounted for 97% of all executions.

What do you think of this?

I voted against the DP in the pole. I am a woman. As far as the thoughts about the countries....Isn't it odd that we consider ourselves (Americans) as enlightened people and fellow DP countries as below us socially, economically and philosophically? I am not saying that is my view, but in general as a nation I think that is true.

I'm a man that voted for the ultimate justice. I have similar concerns. I think the death penalty should be enforced like it was with Timothy McVeigh. He got all his appeals under color of due process, then met his Maker. Why do other cases take twenty(+) years to resolve? That's disparity, in my book.
