i cannot believe the rash of escapes in recent weeks, this guy is deemed dangerous. he's probably in the hialeah area, but you never know.

Accused Serial Rapist Escapes Fla. Jail

MIAMI, Fla. -- Police are searching neighborhoods, airports, rail stations and ports for an inmate accused of raping seven girls and women in the Little Havana area who escaped from jail.

Police said Reynaldo Rapalo climbed down the roof of Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center using bed sheets tied together. He then ran away.

Another man who tried to escape with him was caught after he broke his legs while jumping.

Rapalo, a native of Honduras, is considered armed and dangerous.

He was arrested in September 2003 after a massive manhunt and accused of raping seven victims, ages 11 to 79, and attempting to attack four others.

He was awaiting trial for the rapes he was linked to using DNA evidence.

If convicted, Rapalo faces up to life in prison.

The crimes kept the Little Havana neighborhood on edge for a year. The women were sometimes raped inside their homes.

Police said DNA evidence also showed Rapalo unsuccessfully tried to attack a woman hanging her laundry in the middle of the day, which led to his arrest.

That's awful news!! How convicts can just use the old fashioned trick of tying bed sheets to escape these days is beyond me. Really not saying much for some prisons of today does it.

I hate to be the one to say it but..... sometimes I wish the ones that have been proven to do these awful things be hung from the local oak tree. When I say proven I mean all the evidence and DNA match up, like in this case. I know there are some that are actually innocent, like recently a man that had spent atleast 20 years in prison for a crime that he didn't commit, one of those wrong place wrong time deals, was released due to todays technology. He lost his wife and child, the daughter is now 18 but has kept contact with him and was there to greet him at his releasing. He lost his home, job, everything. If there is a little bit of doubt keep looking into it till the proof is there.

This happened over 2 years ago, they have DNA proof, and he is still awaiting trial?

not uncommon, the lawyers play the delay, delay, delay game. sometimes for years. i just heard there is evidence he had seen a TV program about escaping from jail, what i want to know is how is that possible in the county jail?? inmates in our county jail get two hours PBS and that's it. sometimes a bowl game if they've been 'good'.

Escaped serial rape suspect Reynaldo E. Rapalo was back in custody today, a week following his brazen jail escape, after a tipster recognized his face and called police. Detectives found Rapalo, 34, outside a video store in southwest Miami and chased him down. He is accused of terrorizing two South Florida neighborhoods with attacks on seven victims ranging in age from an 11-year-old girl to elderly women.
