China is now the fourth largest economy in the world.
I was watching a current affairs show last night and the lead story was about the Chinese government having misinterpreted their economic figures and underestimated the size of their economy by about $300 billion a year, thats puts China above the U.K. and Italy in terms of the size of its economy and only behind Germany, Japan, and the U.S. now. It is expected that given current trends China will outstrip Germany and Japan in the next 5 years and the U.S. in the next decade. Food for thought eh?

They are coming up faster than you think. Next thing you know they will be equal with the US. By that time the US will be in the red, the way we use our money.

I heard that they were using so much steel to develop China, that even Ford, with their clout, were finding it difficult to get hold of enough even if they paid a premium

thats only if China itself was doing equal trading. China is doing very well but it won't last another decade when the rest of the world, especially the US, makes them put a value on there money. Too many things working for China now, but it will come to an end faster than you think. We just need a president that understands equal trading and not selling out our companies overseas.

The thing is to bring down trade barriers you are really going to have to compete fairly on the world market it's not just china that has issues with the US. You can't preach free trade and open markets and still keep out competition. You protect one industry but harm another. The EEC has the same problem and is avoiding the issue as well.
Why blame the president or the companies that export jobs abroad? Why not those of your countrymen that don't look at where the stuff is made that they are buying. Take a close look at your computer for instance.

very true. I sell furniture and whem I tell them that that table set they are looking at was made in Vietnam, they won't buy it. On the other hand I am competing with 5-6 different furniture stores that sell that same table set and if I want to remain competitive I have no choice but to sell it. I call it the Wal*Mart philosophy as long as it is cheap and looks good I don't care where it was made. Americans are becomming spoiled and if a certain problem doesn't effect thm directly, than who cares. It's sad cause I remember when everything was made here and now it is on a barge somwhere on the ocean.
