Delusions of persecution because they said he died and was crucified, which was a delusion of persecution, not the truth, not the reality, becuase he never died, but it seemed so to them. Ask yourself can you kill the Messiah, the answer is no. Biggest delusion of persecution is known as the Passion of Christ. Hmmm well that is roughly why religion is not for me.....

Very quickly:
The word “forever†in Jeremiah 3:12 means without end.
The word “forever†in Jeremiah 17:4 means either with or without end and in this case is used with an end in mind.
In John 5:31 Jesus is saying that if he testifies about himself his testimony will be invalidated because of perception.
In John 8:14 Jesus is saying that his testimony is valid in spite of perception because of what he knows.
Matthew 28:18 vs. 1John 12:47: Jesus/God has the power to destroy the evil one. The evil one having control is much different than having ultimate power.
In John 9:39 the word “judgment†refers to his delivering condemnation, which is a different Greek word than used in John 12:47 which in that verse, means to decide between right and wrong.
In Matthew 5:16 Jesus is saying that his followers should do things that set a good example and not bring shame to his followers and therefore not glorifying God.
In Matthew 6:1 Jesus is saying that, when you do good, you should not do it to gain a reward or draw attention to yourself for the wrong reason.
In Genesis 32:30 In Hebrew, “face to face†can be used literaly or a figuratively. Because of all the other statements like the one in John: 1:18 it is assumed it was intended to be figurative in this case.
That took me about 20 minutes. If you would like to look deeper we can sure do that.

It is ridiculous to call the bible schizophrenic. it is a book. it has no inherent personality of it's own...only that injected by the reader.
there are lots of contradictions in the bible and maybe they can be explained away. my view is that the search for contradictions serves only the purpose of debunking and does not attempt to understand but that understanding requires the ability to overlook obvious flaws in reasoning.
Clint: why is God capable of anger at all?

In my opinion God’s anger is the result of his being just. Many people think “rage†when they hear the word anger but they don’t mean the same thing. What should the reaction to something like rape be? What is a parent’s reaction to seeing their child destroying his or her life with drugs? What is a parent’s reaction to a child who ignores their advice and does self destructive things? There is such a thing as just anger, and the absence of it could be just as wrong as anger without just cause.

If God is omniscient he would understand the reasoning behind why every being does what it does and is more like to feel compassion than anger. You can not compare a human reaction to that of God. That is my point. We personify God as if he/it feels human emotions. This seems highly unlikely.

When God tells us what he detestes it is: pride, gossiping, murder, stealing etc.... Not John, Judy, Bob and Jane. It is not the person that God is angry with ... it is the sin that person has chosen to commit.
as for 'gospels are schiz': spoken like a true ignorant.

How do you know what or if God hates? Because the bible tells you so? Who wrote the bible? It certainly wasn't written by God...it has never claimed to be the word of God. Only the word of people who claim to know what God likes and doesn't like and also claim to know how he feels about it. As if God 'felt' emotions like real people. The only thing ever supposedly written by God are the ten commandments and they only say "thou shalt not" it doesn't finish with "or I will be very angry".
BTW this conversation will never have an end

I usually stay out of religous debates anymore. I've had debates that lasted months with friends/coworkers over the years....every time we saw each other, we would just pick up where we left off and never got anywhere. I bet if I saw some of them today, they would start up again LOL
Anyway, I don't take the bible literally. As I understand it, some people took the time to write it after the stories had been passed on for years and years and years. We all know what happens to stories after they have been repeated in just one week....they get longer and longer....till they are close to the real story, but with added drama and interpretation.
I think the bible is a good text, but is just as good as any other religions text. Its a tool for reference, just like any other.

There is dispalyed a big lack of knowledge concerning the Bible and in particular the gospels. There is a great deal of study needed to understand how the Bible came to be, the writing style used, the language, the intent of the authors etc.
If some choose to ignore the Bible that is their business. If however, one is going to make comments either positive or negative one ought to at least make themselves knowledgeable before hand.
The gospels are schizophrenic? Clearly this person has not made any effort to understand them. There are some here who could enlighten him/her if s/he so desires.

I’m not smart enough to make God up. That’s why I read the Bible and my answers have to be Bible based.
The Bible says God created man in his own image. God then personifies himself through his creation. If I’m created in God’s image then he must be a person. The Bible consistently refers to God in human terms. It is the only way we can understand him.
Anger simply explains a human emotion that God created. Anger, properly applied, is what keeps us from coloring way outside the lines.
God is compassionate in his dealings with us. If he didn’t balance anger with compassion, we would be toast. Anger isn’t bad unless it is in control. The balance and blending of emotions makes us who we are. When our emotions, including anger, become unbalanced we become less and less like our creator and more and more troubled.

1 Corinthians 2:14
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Outsiders to the Bible and Christianity aren't aware of how much there is to it. Revelation, along with Daniel in the Old Testament gives a detailed account of the history of the church through the present to the end of time. Many prophecies open up progressively as time passes, not that new meanings are conveniently assigned to them, but as the events fortold get closer, more details are filled in that harmonize with what is already known. Most of Revelation is fulfilled, and only a few last events remain to happen.

Another big difference between the spiritually discerned and those who are not, is that revelation is exciting one and scary to the other. When someone is in fear they tend to strike out, often missing a target they can’t see.

"Outside the Bible and Christianity . . . ." I simply cannot agree. Christianity was meant to be an inclusive religion not and exclusive one. To make it exclusive is to make it like every other faith in the world that claims exclusivity. God is the God of all not just the Christians.

2. Here I agree with you completely. But there are hundreds, perhaps THOUSANDS of ancient writings which are also relevant today and are still studied by nearly everyone with a classical education. With that in mind, how is the Bible unique?

The Bible becomes for Christians the "Word of God" not by virtue of its authorship but by virtue of the fact that God speaks to us through the Bible.
If one understands midrash that the errors and inconsistencies simply do not matter.
A book is not the "Word of God". If we read John Chapter one we find that a person is the word of God. We must avoid bibliolatry.
