If you did I would join the police force down there in a minute. My husband used to live in Pompano Beach then Orlando.....much cheaper than here!

Before we bought our house, we lived in a one bedroom for $1395 per month, and that didnt included any utilities, so I feel your pain!

This is interesting because when I was in Omaha (:-5 ) it seemed that you could buy more for your money than here (Cornwall). I live in a smallish granite terraced cottage (meaning that it's joined to others on either side) and it's worth about £150k (the currency conversion tells me that $300k is about £169k). I could have, had I wished, bought a much bigger detached property in Omaha for the same price. But it seems that Americans pay a much higher property tax (our council tax)? It's about double what it is here. Incidentally my place is at the lower end of the property market and would be what most first time buyers would expect to buy if they were in a position to buy.

That's our quaint old pound sign, tmbsgrl. I really like the expression "funny looking Es" Can you imagine using it everyday? This dress cost 35 funny looking Es and that meal cost 25 funny looking Es. Yes, I might have a go at that and people will think me odder than they already do :wah: It sounds Monty Pythonish

Yes you should snooze. I am :wah: ...mostly. And if there was a "spit" smilie I would use that too. I must be getting better.

Your $300,000 home is only $125,000 in New Mexico. Everything else is cheap too. Unfortunately, the median salary is only $35,000.:o

My husband and I bought our house in Feb 2004 for $194,900 USD. We had an appraiser come out so we could refinance and our houes appraised at $365,900 USD 18 months later. Nice for us, but we are lucky we bought when we did! I could never live here alone. I couldnt even afford an apartment on my salary much less a car and groceries and utilities.

Back home in Atlanta, I can get 2000 more square feet and brick on all sides for what my house appraised for here. And I dont even live in DC limits. Im south.
