Well we think we know more about Americans and America than visa versa, but how true this really is I'm not so sure. When I finally get my arse on a plane over the atlantic and see for myself I will try not to be too swayed by t.v. and films.

Well New York, coz its closest, and I have loads of relatives upstate. After that, dunno, its a big country and theres a lot of stuff in it! Would like to see the desert areas as we don't have that type of environment in Europe so it would be interesting, god there's loads. Cali, the south, New Orleans (will have to wait for a while for that one), Texas, Springfield, Bush's gaff, oh and the place where the Aliens are kept!

Well the weather around here lately, and for the foreseeable future it seems, is FOG!!

Yep u look out the window, and can barely see the house across the street. Been like this for days, and I honestly can't see it changing for a while at least.

Feels really strange, it is so quiet and deserted here lately, perhaps everyone knows something I don't?? :-3

Heck I would be too scared in this weather to even go out in the car in the fog.

I remember a time when we were coming home from our gran's house, (very small country road that goes on for about half an hour,) and the fog came in. Man I was so scared, you literally couldn't see the road or anything, and this was at about 11pm at night. Thank god my dad, knows the road layout off by heart, and we got through!!

But that incident has put me off driving in the fog, at least when I don't have to go out!!

Abbey If there is not a switch on the dash with a semicircle and some lines raiating from it You may have to pull or push the switch you use for the normal lights

Last I heard, Scotland is supposed to get it by Thursday! They have been salting the roads down here in the south for two days now! LOL!! Looks like someone has barfed all over the pavement!

I feel so bad for you guys, usually we are way worse off than the entire world but...... OMG we are having a fantastic heat wave. 14C (converted, 14 x 2 +30 = 58) Was out cycling saturday and loving it, this is to continue into next weekend. Weird weather here, nice highs during the day and darn cold at nite, scraped frost off the car windshield this am. hehehehe

You know the way ye were all complaining about the fog yesterday, well when I woke up this morning it was the thickest fog I've seen in years outside. Its 12.30 now and its still not clearing. Quite cold as well, winter's definetly closing in.

Lucky blokes. I haven't seen fog in 35 years. We don't have it in the High Rockies. It's too dry here. We're lucky if we get a good frost. Must be pretty cool to live where yo do. It's a beautiful sunny day here, but I'm at 5500 feet so the temperature will be a freezing cold 21 degrees Celsius. (about 70 farenheit) Brrrrr!:)

Britain braced for heavy snowfall

The cold weather is expected to hit northern Scotland first

Weather forecasters have warned that large parts of Britain will be hit by heavy snow which is likely to cause disruption over the next four days.

Wintry conditions will hit northern Scotland in the early hours of Thursday, before spreading to Northern Ireland and the north of England.

Southern parts of England are also expected to be affected overnight on Thursday and into Friday.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning ahead of the cold snap.

The warning stated: "Areas at highest risk for snow will be northern and eastern Scotland along with Northern Ireland, where winds will also reach severe gale force.

"Showers will fall widely as snow over high ground where local blizzard conditions are expected giving significant accumulations of snow with drifting.

There is a higher risk for Wales and south-west England on Friday, especially over hills and moors.

Forecasters warn that there is a moderate risk of snow affecting southern and central areas of England on Friday night and Saturday.

However, it is thought that by this stage most of it in other areas of the UK will be restricted to high ground.

BBC Weather Forecaster Jay Wynne said: "Temperatures will remain low this week with widespread night-time frosts.

"Generally, at nights we should see the thermometer dipping to around zero to -2Ã‚°C in the cities, and even colder in rural areas, with daytime temperatures reaching a high of around 3 to 4Ã‚°C.

"On Friday, it will feel more like -5 to -10Ã‚°C in most of the towns and cities across the UK due to the strength of the wind."

'Sensible driving'

More than 100 gritters and snowploughs in Aberdeenshire are already on standby, in advance of the snowfall warnings.

Tom Mitchell, the council's head of operations, said: "Winter weather can vary greatly from year to year, and our staff and equipment have been on standby since last week."

Meanwhile, Lothian and Borders Police's Traffic Branch warned motorists to take care on the roads after a number of fatal accidents in the region in recent weeks.

Superintendent Phil O'Kane, branch commander, stressed the importance of "sensible driving" in winter months.

Thick fog

He said: "The days get darker earlier and visibility is often poor due to the combination of little light and adverse weather conditions."

Meanwhile, the thick fog which has accompanied wintry conditions in some areas has prevented drivers on the M6 in Cumbria from being caught by speed cameras.

The county's safety camera partnership has reported that more than 150 vehicles were caught travelling at 70mph on Tuesday night in a section of contraflow near Tebay, where the temporary limit is 50mph. However, the fog was so heavy that the cameras failed to even make out the shape of some of them.

I checked the temperature tonight here (S.E. Ireland) it was 1 degree celcius at 8 o'clock and felt very cold (I don't know what the farenheit temp is, thats a very old-school measurement round here, up there with yards of ale and fathoms). I think this well predicted cold winter may well happen. Well, I for one think its a good thing, as I am young and fit and unlikely to die from the cold, it also gives me a chance to wear that coat I bought a few years back. I do hope they give the pensioners plenty of extra fuel money as they will probably be needing it. Are they predicting a harsh winter for North America? I havn't seen anything about the weather coming up there?

I tell u that isn't wasn't freezing today, it was sub-zero!! We even had the first few snowflakes here that I've seen in ages. Although they did only last a few minutes, it was still such a pretty sight.
