The Gadgets in our lives- Mobile Phone

We have bitched, whined and belly-ached planty of times in the past about these new 'Gadgets in our lives', the mobile phone and the scourge of texting. It seems there is no place safe today without hearing them ringing in our ears. Whole conversations is now by text. God Help us.

An Italian teenager has permanently lost the use of his thumb after he texted too much. He texted more than a 100 times a day, that his right thumb is now paralysed.

He can be the poster child for the "evils of text messaging."

Great, to think that we NEED a poster child for the evils of text messaging. :yh_rotfl

My son's phone is set up so that each text costs him a dime. (Virgin mobile) That way he won't use the texting unless he's willing to pay for it. (Yep, he pays his own phone bill!)

My son's phone is set up so that each text costs him a dime. (Virgin mobile) That way he won't use the texting unless he's willing to pay for it. (Yep, he pays his own phone bill!) Your son would be much better putting the money in a savings account, than wasting it on mobiles.

Well, being 15 he's gaining some independence and I need to be able to get a hold of him from time to time. Since he pays for what he wants, I figure a responsibility like this will teach him how important it is to keep your bills paid. And his savings account has about twice as much money as mine does! He's a great saver!

Well thanks SS! I am DETERMINED that he doesn't make the same mistakes I did!

I see we have some things in common! I didn't get kicked out, I left on my own, but either way, it's a bi**h to recover from serious debt, huh?

So far so good. He really does have more money than I do, but when he has to insure his own car in six months, it's REALLY going to hit him hard!

i have had three mobile phones in my life, last week i bought the third of these. I have to admit it was a vanity thing but this phone is beautiful. its a flip LG phone with a camera

I didn't really need a new phone but i couldn't live without a mobile. I feel like it gives me a sense of security, I can always get in touch with the people i need to and as i have a pay as you go phone I am in control of what i spend which i admit is quite a bit :-2

I love my cell phone. Though, these days I use it more for texting than for talking. I have cellophobia -- fear of cell phones. I use one, but i'm scared of the transmitter so I almost never use it to speak; instead i text message. it was annoying at first but that T9 thing (www.textfast.t9.com ) has made it a lot faster. of course, i'm not sure what this means for radiating my hand though. Better the hand than the brain, I suppose.

I don't even know where my phone is. I think it's got about three quid on it for emergancies (if ever I find it)

Don't expect to be able to take any photos then. My kids play with my phone all the time and I end up with pictures of their noses being sent to my mother and Father.

don't upset me now. I haven't quite worked out my digital camera and that was sold to me as being easy enough for a child to use. I think they meant Stephen Hawking as a child but hey...

I'm the one that hasn't had a land line in years and keeps up with every latest trend and deal and scheme to get free technology which I then can't afford to pay for any decent plan for so 80% of the features I can't use... that's why I was excited when I looked at my phone and found T9 was already there, and free. And that it costed less to use it for voice than for messaging.... I'm cheap.
