Wool baseball uniforms.. Enough said. And, yes, they itched. And yes, they were hot. And, yes, they were baggy. And, yes, I'm glad I don't have to wear them anymore!

one bathroom homes.. Most homes in our neighborhood had one bathroom.. and we had five kids and two adults. I don't remember how we did it.

Milkmen Delivered Milk.. in Real Glass Bottles.. You had a certain schedule with the milkman, and you left your "empties" on the porch for him to pick up. I think our milkman came three days a week. They needed to know if you wanted homogenized milk or pasteurized milk (with the cream on top). And they came in a white milk truck with white uniforms.

home-made ice cream.. Oh boy, homemade ice cream. Even today, with Baskins Robbins and all the rest, I'll still take home-made ice cream. You had to have dry-ice and salt (no, not table salt, salt like they put on roads when it's icy). You put this around a cannister with the ingredients in it and then we kids would take turns turning and turning and turning the spindle inside to keep mixing the ice cream. Boy, was it good. Later, of course, there were electric mixers.

I have always lived in a 1 bathroom house. 2 adults + 3 kids. When my Mum came to live with us in 1982, we built a downstairs cloakroom....we managed.

No it didn't, I hated anything girly!! Major Tomboy!! I had to settle for the racing bike as my mum wouldn't let me have a BMX, she thought that would mean too many trips to Casualty.

I remember making Go-carts out of old pram wheels, an old man on our street helped Jamie and me build a brilliant one!!
This wouldn't be allowed nowadays, we lived on a quiet street, an old man who lived in the flat beneath Jamie used to look after us whilst our Mums worked. We spent hours in his flat playing records, helping him build his Railway track, in his garden. He wasn't related to either of us, how it came about that he watched us whilst our parents worked I'll never know!! When he died a while back no one knew much about him, we didn't know if he had family or not, when I questioned my Mum she knew very little other than he was a batchelor and she left me with him every afternoon. Which was fine, because he was ok, but can you imagine doing that nowadays!

Because people were different then, isn't it sad? All neighbors watched out for the children around them, and nothing bad ever happened to us.
