Cancel my subscription to the Economist and the New Scientist, and write a strongly worded letter to Bin Laden expressing my displeasure at him being a complete bollix. Then I would get a sign saying "The End is Nigh, no really it is this time, no messing" and join into the general throng hanging round the bus station.

Nuclear War Coming !

Post by Rapunzel »

Take my kids out of school, take the week off and spend the week together doing all the nice 'family' things we all enjoy. If we're going to die at least we'll be together and the kids will know how much we love them AND they wont know whats about to happen (hopefully) because I won't tell them. Just a nice week and then...poof!...its over!

I think the WORST thing that could happen is if we were all killed but one of our children managed to survive alone surrounded by our remains. (Depends how close the blast was - no remains would mean no survivors.) If we HAVE to die I would hope we would all just go together and painlessly.

I'd still take my chances at the bus station.

If I knew for certain I'd try and find out where they'd land first and go and campout there so I'd get hit first and not know anything about it.

But what if there were a last minute reprieve? What a waste of a life.

God wouldn't that be the ultimate let down wouldn't it!, "what do you mean WW III is canceled due to industrial action?" Bloody worse than the fricking Millenium.

Don't want to put a downer on things (in a armaggedon thread!), but if there was a proper Nuclear War, you wouldn't want to survive, trust me.

Dear all...we should club together and buy this place...I will NOT be beaten !

Just needs an 'Extreme makeover' !

Enormous nuclear bunker for sale

A nuclear bunker made to house the government and civil servants in the event of nuclear attack is for sale.

The existence of the underground complex at Corsham, Wiltshire, was kept secret until recently, but the Ministry of Defence is now inviting buyers.

Built in the late 1950s, the bunker covers many acres and was decommissioned in the 1980s.

It is underground - more than 100ft (30m) down - and includes a kitchen and BBC studio.

The MoD says it has received hundreds of enquiries for purchase which will be under a private finance initiative, including two serious bids.

Despite being close to one of Britain's busiest railway lines, the facility was shrouded in secrecy for 50 years beneath non-descript government buildings.

Enormous and fully-equipped kitchens remain unused

In the 1950s as the threat of nuclear war intensified, the government pinned its hope for survival on buildings already used by the military.

If there had been an attack, the then prime minister Harold Macmillan and much of Whitehall would have been moved west to the bunker.

Nick McCamley, author of Secret Underground Cities, said in the past the government "simply refused to admit" the bunker existed.

"They gradually released documents about some of the other sites in the area, but as far as was concerned it simply did not exist."

Chairs and office equipment are still stored there, in preparation for thousands of civil servants. There are huge generators to provide power that might have been needed for weeks, boxes of paper and files, and enormous kitchens - all unused. One of the largest telephone exchanges ever built would have linked to the regional government, which would also have been underground in the event of an attack.

IF I KNEW LIKE YOU SAID, THEN DO A PREMPTIVE STIRKE, & DO IT TO THEM FIRST!

Then while the launch was beginning, take off in a Space Shuttle & fly into outer space, & circle the earth for 4 or 5 months till things cooled down. :-2

Then when we got back, I guess things would be kinda lonely. But then I would be "master of the universe", I claimed it, before Nomad did!!:D
