Embarassing purchases

Post by theia »

I worked with a girl some years ago who reused to buy toilet rolls because she wouldn't be seen carrying them. I don't like having to buy Tena Lady for my mother in case someone thinks they're mine (they might well be one day, but please, not yet). Oh and I often buy too much cake because I love it and I try to hide some of it under other purchases.

Is there anything you feel embarrassed about having in your shopping trolley?

Condoms, I'm almost 30 and I still go red in the face when I have to buy them.

I do tend to hide the jaffa cakes as well, I look a bit of a pig when I have 4 packs in my trolley.

I don't feel that comfortable buying those Andrex moist wipes either (2 packs for my mother today!)

*lol* I know I bought some of those for my Grandma and I made a point of explaining to the girl behind the till that they were for her and not me.

My mother almost caught me coming out of an Ann summers shop a few months back when I was buying some things for my best friends hen night. I had to dash back in the shop incase she asked what was in the bag.

I really didn't fancy explainging what it was and what you did with it.:lips:

Bad meaning chic. Im joshing and I really dont need to know everything there is. Part of the mystery and intrigue is the allure.I accept our differences and fully appreciate them. Dear Theia, just ignore everyone when you go out and buy those personel items for someone else. I have to buy many of those types of items for my husband, on a weekly basis. They all know me at Walmart, the 7 o'clock am shopper, so I can buy the stuff early to get out of there.

The other day, I was in the supermarket, and I was just about to pickup a box of maxi pads from the shelf when this nice-looking guy was about to enter the aisle. He took one look at me, one look at the maxi pads that I was getting ready to pickup, and then he turned and literally ran over to the next aisle. He had to go running for cover, poor baby.

My ex-husband used to buy those things for me all the time and didn't care. It was comical to see this man run like that :)

Not too long ago I was really hooked on Coca Cola, drinking 2-3 2-liter bottels a day. During my weekly shopping trips, I purchased 15-20 or more bottles at a time. (I've recently kicked the habit).

When I would check out, the usual comment was "Oh, having a party..." and I would lie sweetly through my smile and say "Yes!"

I don't mind buying loo roll, although hubby gets a bit embarrassed when it's 2-for-1 and I pick up 2x 9 roll packs! We seem to get through loads of the stuff. I think my son uses wadges every time he goes, so he won't get wet hands! Lol!

I also buy wet wipes but buy baby wipes because they're bigger, nicer, softer AND cheaper than Andrex wet wipes! And they flush easily. :wah:

Oh, and you only need 1 instead of 2 or 3 little medicated squares. :o

In the good old days, when I used to buy condoms, I knew which ladies loos had a machine on the wall - you used to get three for a pound! Lol.

My hubby is also very good at buying stuff! Quite a few times he's nipped out to buy some Tampax when I've run out and he's recently had to buy me some packets of liners following a recent miscarriage. I think the only thing I do do is make sure there's a lady on the checkout when I'm buying Tampax. Lol. :o

If you want to go shopping without your teenage daughter, tell her your buying a mop. There is no way she will be seen with a Mother carrying a mop through the Mall.

If I buy a lot of Black and Gold ( cheap brand stuff ) I hide it under the name brand groceries

Buying KY Gel from a supermarket (for my ab-belt) and watching the guy behind me snigger!

Asking the chemist assistant for some hemaroid cream, (i'd heard that it shrinks small wrinkles on your face) and feeling the need to explain what i was buying it for, i took so long, a queue formed behind me and my face was so red. :o

Like Theia buying Tenna lady for my mum, i buy them 1st and build the shopping around them!

Ready made custard, frozen chips (french fries),a small tin of baked beans, cos it makes me look sad.:-3

Too many meals for one look a bit sad too :-1

And anything that visibly shows that you've "got" something e.g dandruff shampoo, bath oil for very dry skin or rough skin on feet remover

far more fun to find the youngest looking lad...preferably blonde or red-head so you can watch them blush as all your personal bits and bobs go through the scanner.

When I worked at a store, a quite embarrassed, quite confused young man came to me for help. Being the helpful person I am, when he asked what kind of pads to buy his wife, I asked, "Does she want maxis or liner, scented or unscented, with wings or without wings". Poor guy was having a hard enough time and I couldn't make it better for him.:wah: In the end, I did call his wife and ask her and then got the right ones.

I dont feel embarassed about that stuff, we all do it.

but, I have an interesting funny story.

Yesterday two twins came in (boys) and they were trying to steal condoms, well i caught them and said hi, I can ring you up for those right here, one took off and the other turned red faced and said ok, he was all of 13 maybe 14, and I went on about now make sure you know how to apply the condom correctly otherwise it may not live up to its needed potential (they were flavored condoms) and in a small voice he said , how do you know which one is which flavor, and I replied ask your parents they explain that part.

Well I can't say that I've ever had an embarassing purchase, but I sure have had my fair share of embarassing shopping moments.

For example, I don't know why (please don't all laugh at once,) but I just can never seem to get those blasted paper carrier bags open, and whilst the person at the checkout is approaching the end of my purchases, I'm still trying to open my first bag.

Another is when I went shopping for my mum, and she gave me a tenner to get some stuff. By the time I had packed up most of it, the person at the till said "that will be ten pounds, and 26p please." Oh I felt like such an idiot, having everyone watching me trying to pay for goods that I couldn't even afford. My mum never heard the end of it.

Most embarrassing... walking into a store, have my purse gain a life of its own, fly off my shoulder and dump everything inside. I never knew tampons could fling themselves so far on linoleum.
:wah: I've had that happen to me as well. It's even more embarrassing when a nice guy helps you out by picking them up for you!

I really hate buying bras. I always pick out the nice padded ones and it never fails, as I'm walking to the checkout someone I know (usually male) will approach to have a chat while I stealthily try to hide them behind my back!

I remember one shopping trip...I'm so embarassed to even post this...: lightbulbs, toilet paper, metamucil, razor blades and KY! Oh so embarassing! I didn't even realize how bad those all looked together till we reached the counter. I just smiled sweetly at the little 16 year old at the counter and paid in cash.

I used to love when I'd get some smartbutt teenage boy wanting condoms. He thought he was being really cute and asked me, with a store full of customers, if we had extra large condoms. Without missing a beat I replied, "Sure, but why don't you get the size you REALLY need and not the size you WISH?" I don't think he liked it much, but his buddies and the rest of the customers loved it.:wah:

I once had a guy come in and buy 24 condoms from me. An hour later he waltzed in and asked me out. I asked him which number he was saving for me. He looked rather put off by that comment. :wah:
