Doctor, Doctor......
New years day i felt poorly, my chest was hurting & joints very stiff it was very difficult for me to walk, so i phoned the drs knowing that no-one would be their but hoping that they could direct me to an emergency doctor.
I was given one of two options, to either call NHS direct or call into a BARDOC?? centre that was staffed by nurses, good call but they was unable to dispense any meds that was needed, after calling them i was assured a dr would call me, and good as thier word a dr called 2 hours later who asked me a couple of questions and came to the conclusion that i had a upper respiratory tract infection & would need to travel 11 miles to pick up a prescription & then a further 5 miles to get it filled out!!
Is it any wonder that hospitals are stretched to the limits on weekends/bank holidays?
Maybe it would be a good idea to have a machine where you type in your symptoms & it could dispense a simple scrip for anti-biotics, a bit like the fortune telling ones at the fair.....
Yes i know drs need hols too, but when you feel ill the last thing you need, is to be made to feel guilty for it.

:-4 ABBEY,
I hope your feeling better now..!! :-6
Wouldn't it be nice if it worked that way.. !!
You can order medicine on the internet, and have it FEDX'D to for a stiff price. :yh_cry
Here is the US we have what are called URGENT CARE CLINICS, that are open on Holidays. Yes you have to travel to one, but you get treated, and most have a pharmacy onsite, or they can give you enough medication till the next business day..!!
I'm sorry you had to go through such a trying day, when feeling ill..!!

It's the whole idea of the walk in centres that are springing up across England, London has them at almost every hospital now to stop people going into A&E for a sore throat.
Only thing is they still send people onto A&E which just doubles their waiting time as you don't get fast tracked.
Last time I went to our local walk in centre I waited 1 1/2 hours to see someone just to be told it would wear off in time... I couldn't feel my feet... Hello !!!

Bad Girls have very high standards, but they love you even if you sometimes fall short.

I'm struggling with respiratory "disorders" at the moment and sympathize. I love your feeling "poorly" description...way to understate, girl. You seem to be the same as me, won't go unless its really bad.
Would like to share a bizarre story about emerg visits. Went in recently with a bladder infection (no porta-potty on site...I know, too much information) and was in and out in 15 minutes!!!
Yes, folks, you heard it right 15 MINUTES. The doctor overheard me and wrote the prescription before the nurse even filled out my forms. Apparently there was a couple of traumas coming in and he didn't want the waiting list piling up. I sat at home for about half an hour before embarking on my journey there. I guess being psychic does help sometimes. Timing is everything.

Hope your better Abbey. Ive used emergicares..24 hour a day walk in type things.
Some of them actually fill your prescription right on the premesis now. They really try to load you up with stuff you dont need Because I think they make money on the meds. Also its about 75.00 for them just to look at you.

Weeder, you have to remember that our walk in centres are NHS and free, the most we pay is £6 something for the presciption to be filled.
How long are waiting times in ER's? In London you normally wait about 4-7 hours, and the last time I was there I was bleeding heavy, luckily they did put me in a room quite early on, still had the same wait as everyone else though, if not slightly longer as they had to get specialists down for me.

Oh my , I forgot... socialized medicine... which is what everyone here wants.
The emergicare walk ins are not free. Prescriptions are never free unless you have medicaid. There are a few free clinics. Staffed as I understand by medical personell who donate their time. The wait in emergency rooms depends on how large a city you are in, and how urgent your problem is. Emergency rooms in New York are a nightmare. In Virginia much shorter wait. Lesser population. I do have to say though that for me and my family... We have always received excellent care. Wherever we have lived, when there was an emergency. I lived without medical coverage for 13 years. Thankfully, I made it through, as I have been fortunate to have enjoyed excellent health thus far. Abou 7 years ago, I had a serious accident on a horse. No choice.... emergency room in Virginia. My bill was about 2,800.00. I paid it off over the course of 2 years.

Thankyou all for your kind wishes, i'm actually feeling like c*ap at the moment although the medication seems to be kicking in.
What worried me about my experience was, i had someone to go to collect the meds for me but if i'd have been on my own with no cash & no transport i'd have been up the creek without a paddle!! as it was new years day it would have cost £99 for a round trip just to pick up a scrip!!! no wonder the hospitals are full to bursting.
I had pleurisy in Nov & i was so scared it had come back again, theirs a lot to be said for going private & i'm certainly thinking about joining a plan although it goes against all my principals, take care all x

How did you learn to put all of that fancy artwork on the screen? I never thought Id care to learn..... But your stuff is starting to make me want to do it. I never wanted to pay for medical coverage either. I never go to doctors. But again, Ive been lucky. If finally figured I was starting to play with fire, not covering my self
at this age. One 10 day stay in the hospital can wipe you out for years. My business pays for it now so I try to make believe I dont even know it.

Hi Abbey, glad you're getting better!
I am one of those who hates going to the Doctor. However, in the last two months I've been to see more Doctors, and taken more meds and more tests than I ever have had to do over the last "30" years! Not counting "2" visits to the E/R, because like you I got sick on Holidays, Thanksgiving morning, and a week later on a Sunday. My Family Doctor was away on Holiday, so I called his so-called stand-in covering Doctor, that called me back 50 minutes later and told me he was on Holiday, and I should go the E/R! So much for the standing-in!
Of course I went to the E/R, and waited. First time not too bad, second time going on 4 hours. The only answer is, don't get sick!! Ha-Ha. :wah:
(I'm going to the Doctor's later this afternoon, and again next Monday afternoon, hate it!) :-5

Yes, I have a respiratory infection too...no butts now in 9 days, good time to quit? The coughing is just too much. When you run a business and you are on the phone, choking and coughing are not good. I had some broad-spectrum antibiotic here, that knocked it down pretty good. about 4 days worth. Its that time of the year for these illness...You'll be better soon ABBE.
Everyone has these on their face? TULIPS.
