Animal Planet

Post by cars »

"Animal Planet" is a TV program that discloses Inhumane treatment of Animals. Some of the "Inhumane cruelty" to Animals is absolutely unbelievable, and unconscionable! :-1 (Too many horrors to list, you need to see the program)

I was unaware that the ASPCA Police carry Guns, and have the authority to actually arrest serious Inhumane Animal treatment offenders. :-2

Pet Lovers would/will hang these offenders from the highest tree!!!

SHOULD THESE PEOPLE, IF CONVICTED GO TO JAIL FOR A SUBSTANCIAL TIME?

I feel that those offenders who have caused the death of an animal should do time whether by neglect or by violence, but some of those shows have bothered me, like one where they took a dog into custody because it needed groomed. The dog was 17 years old and though grooming is necessary, I felt they went way overboard. If a dog lives to be 17, the owners were doing something right. Another one I thought was stupid was where they took a dog in because it was missing hair in many areas (which to anyone who knows what mange is, could tell that that was the problem). The vets they consulted said it was sarcoptic mange, but the announcer persisted in calling it "rat bites" the entire time. It seems like most of the shows focus on Pit bull raids lately :-5

Actually, to clarify for those of you who may be trying to find this program in your TV listings, the program is called "Animal Precinct", on the channel Animal Planet.

Absolutely these "people" should go to jail. The unfortunate reality is that a) there isn't enough room in our jails for animal abusers, and b) the court systems just don't see this as a big a problem as rape, murder, drug trafficking, or so many other heinous crimes. Which, being given the choice, I would lock up a rapist before a person who abuses animals, of course, but this problem does need to be taken more seriously by the courts.

I was a veterinary technician for 7 years, and have seen first hand the abuse suffered by many animals. From pit bulls bred just to fight in the ring and be slaughtered, like they are a commodity instead of a living, feeling creature, to dogs who are just ignored and left to starve.

It is very rare for a person to be sent to jail for these crimes unless they are a repeated offender. But it takes many times before a judge will send someone to jail. They get fined, ticketed, probation, more fines, are forbidden to keep animals anymore, (though many still do), and still, they continue to abuse.

They have laws to prevent some of theses things from happening, such as in Detroit, no one under 18 is allowed to own a pit bull, because the dog fighting business is so huge there. But just like any criminal, the law means nothing to these people and they continue to break them.

If it were up to me, I would take first time offenders, case by case, and they would have to volunteer their time in the shelters, cleaning cages, and assisting the Doctors in the worst abuse cases they come across, so they can see, up close and personal, a dog suffering. Of course, too many people think a dog or cat or bird or horse is just property, so I would also begin by educating pet owners. Education was one of my favorite aspects of being in animal medicine. So many people out there don't know the huge responsibility of owning a pet. It is close to having a child. They depend on you for everything, and if someone wasn't prepared to provide that, I would discourage them from owning pets.

The worst part is, there are a lot more people out there uneducated and uncaring and unfeeling than there are animal cruelty agents and it's impossible to keep up with all of them. It's really a shame, and if there were harsher punishments, there might be less abuse.

Bullet's trial was a farce. Can I get an AMEN?????

We won't be punished for our sins, but BY them.
