sleep position
Hi. I'm new to this forum. I am here because I can't find the answer to my question. It's about my husbands' sleep position. He sleeps on his stomach and wakes up with pain in his neck and back. He would like to sleep on his back, but doesnt' know how to train himself. I've looked on the internet for sleep problems and all I came up with was sleep positons for babies, even though I typed in adult sleep positons.
We need some tips! Thank You.

Hiya TweetyPie, Welcome to FG.
As for your husbands dilemma,
How about handcuffs?
Cuff him to the bed on his back for a few nights. :sneaky:

take his pillow away that will either prove horribly uncomfortable to him and he may change positions, or it will relieve some of the pain.

What about buying one of those mattresses, i think they're called Tempur,
supposedly you can sleep in any position & the mattress moulds itself to your body.

Maybe one of those Boomarang pillows might help as it is to big to turn around on.
I know where you can get a nice AV to go with your name:D

Hmmn, an interesting one, as a shameless self-publicist I would direct you to my own advice thread for the answers, though I will have to read up on this to be of any use. Also I would have to warn you that I would probably make fun of the situation as I am a cruel git.

How about jamming those little decorative pillows (the ones with the cutsy sayings on them), one on each side of his waist so that he cannot roll over in his sleep...............
or if he's a feisty sleeper:
slide a long flat (padded) board under his back and tie his hands to the ends and dare him to roll over............... don't know where you'd sleep then tho.......

And now, some serious help! Try having him sleep on his SIDE, not front
or back. Have him pull his knees up towards his chest, and keep a firm
pillow in between his knees. This will align his spine and help alleviate
his pain. If he can't do it all night, tell him to at least start out that
way when he goes to bed, at his sleepiest. He can then gradually train
himself to do it longer.
Couple other tips although he might not like them... lose weight if he
needs to, a large belly puts strain on lower back muscles. And he
should try doing sit-ups. Start out slowly and gradually work up to
a number he's comfortable maintaining (not three or anything, I do
50 5 days a week!) and this will stregthen tummy muscles and
thereby support his back more, really!!

I wouldn't know, I'm usually asleep
give him some rohypnol, that'll sort him out.

SnoozeControl wrote: A very good suggestion, but I think I'd go for one of those "body" pillows that you can prop your upper body on if you're a stomach sleeper, and use it between the knees as suggested. They're a bit expensive, but it might be a good investment.
:yh_clap
Very good suggestion, mah dear. The only reason I didn't mention it was
because of the added cost of a body pillow.
What else could I have expected from SnoozeControl hmmm?
;) :p
