Not nice and not a subject to be made light of.

Sorry again for bringing this up, you're probabably too young to realise the connotations of what you posted, but please think before using such remarks on a public forum, there's always the chance that someone with such an affliction, or someone close to a person so afflicted might be reading.

I'm already pissed about it being dark at 5:30. It will do nothing but get MUCH MUCH worse for me. Pretty soon there will only be 10.5 hours of daylight. I have that winter thing with light - I NEED sunlight and I pretend my lamps are the sun in the winter. I light the house up.......:-5 .

At first this post was mildly amusing, and kind of "wow, someone got up on the wrong side of the bed." The more I think about it, though, the more I'm reminded of all the PC threads we have floating around FG right now. This can get thrown right into the pile with them.

Nothing was meant by the use of that word, and it wasn't even directed at the person doing the complaining. But this person, who may or may not have some condition that could, by a healthy stretch of the imagination, construe this as "offensive" is going to whine about it's use?

When we are getting to the point where we have to consider every damn word that comes from our mouths, for fear of possibly irritating someone, somewhere for some reason or another, well that's effort I'm not willing to make.

People, if I'm posting something with the intent of offending you, you're going to know it. And there's going to be good reason for it. And I'm not going to apologize for it. Trust me, you won't have to guess at all, you WILL know that I'm meaning it in a snarky way. I don't care about being "PC" and find the entire practice offensive. :yh_eyebro

Frankly, I don't give a crap if the condition exists or not. It's not like someone used the word n*gger, for Christ's sake.

Someone just has to bitch and carry on about something, so that's what was pulled from the hat. A total crock.

On a serious note, I have a co-worker that thinks nothing of using the word "retard* when someone does something silly. I hate to be politically correct, but that one does bother me.

I sub for the "retard" special ed class 2-3 days a week. They are a tough bunch because their brains just aren't right. We try to get them functional.

Well, Americans obviously care more about some words/descriptions than others.

I guess we'll have to agree to differ on this, though I personally don't see the difference in offense caused between someone with ms and someone who is a victim of thalidomide.

I guess that the fact that a close family member was a victim of this condition has little bearing in this forum, so let's just forget that anything was said.

Hmmm it seems that this topic has changed to something completely different.

Going back to the original clock topic, I get so confused when we put the clocks back or forward, and always end up losing track of everything. To make it worse we have oh so many clocks in our house, and some of them are so fiddly to change. Can be a real pain sometimes!!

You are so right!! The old traditional ones aren't too bad, you can just move the hands, but the digital ones, ah now there's a different story. Especially any ones on your video, they are really tricky and quite frustrating.

My computer, the VCR and the other halfs bedside radio alarm reset themselves...radio signal...but the rest, including watches have to be altered. a real pain.

We used to have Chiming clocks when I was a kid...my dad used to wind them up every night before he went to bed. They used to chime every hour....we didn't think anything of it then, but I think it might drive me mad nowadays.....and the ticking was so LOUD.

Years ago, I had a cuckoo clock given to me and enjoyed it at the time...

but what was really funny when I first got it is the two resident dogs

running over when it came out and doing the head tilt side to side! LOL

didn't last long, though, they were too smart and pretty soon became

ho-hum about the cuckoo.
