The War on Terror, what's it all about eh?

Post by Galbally »

Right, said I would. So question: how do you have a war on "terror" and is it also possible to have a war on "nightmares" or a war on "empathy" it seems a bit non-sequiter to me. But seriously is it possible to win such a war, in a military sense? Has the invasion and occupation of Iraq improved or worsened the situation?. Is it feasible to use a military option in the case of Iran? What about North Korea? Why is there such hatred of western governments in Islamic societies, is it our leaders and their policies that they hate, or our way of life? I think personally its a heady mix of revolutionary politics, post-colonial arab nationalism, and our dependence on their oil. Your thoughts please.

I've no idea how this never had a reply. I was looking for something else, but this thread can have terrorism if that's what it needs.

Christian evangelicals? The ultimate revenge killers?

I had an A4 sheet stuck in my letterbox from one "Michael" this morning - allow me to doubt its benign tone. Here is it:
Dear Reader,

The Sabbath Day

This message is for everybody, from the spiritually inclined to the materialist; from the devoted Christian to the equally convinced atheist. Whatever your beliefs, please spare a few minutes to read the message enclosed with this letter. It may well surprise you!

My life changed a few years ago after I had a severe heart attack when I started to see things through new eyes; all the familiar places and people, everything in fact seeming more precious. No blinding vision, but a gradual realisation that belief in God as Creator and Sustainer of all things is the only thing that really makes sense of everything.

A lot of reading over the last few years has convinced me that the Bible is in complete harmony with true science; the flood and the fossil record; the order, design and beauty seen everywhere in the natural world; the inter-connectivity and sheer complexity of the parts of the human body; archaeological discoveries etc; all testify to divine creation and to the truth of God's word. Many man-made theories such as the evolution of man and the “big-bang” origin of the universe are other matters entirely, and are all contrary to Gods holy word.

‘Written over a period of 1,400 years by many authors under the inspiration of God, it is His word to us on matters that we could never discover for ourselves, even with all our natural intelligence. The main theme of the Bible is the great controversy between God and Satan; how evil entered the world and corrupted mankind; how Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came in human form to preach righteousness and to redeem us from our sins, and how after the final conflict, which will centre around which day is the true Sabbath day, He will return. Then at His coming, all His true followers will be taken up to heaven, both the living and those resurrected from the dead. Then, after Satan and his demons, along with all unbelievers have finally been destroyed, the faithful will enjoy eternal life with Him on a new and sinless earth, restored as a Paradise, as it was in the original creation. We have not been given every detail of what life will be like on the New Earth, but we are assured that it be unimaginably more glorious than are our present lives in this sin- corrupted world.

When the disciples asked about the end of the world, Jesus told them of some of the signs that would indicate that it was soon to happen; there would be wars and rumours of wars, there would be famines, plagues and earthquakes in various places; but it would not happen until His message had been preached to all the world.

When we consider the state of the world today, surely the time of the end can not be far off. People are becoming reluctant to watch the TV news programmes for fear of what new disaster will be revealed. Climate change, forest fires, famine, uncontrolled migration of peoples; threats of nuclear war and economic breakdown: the list is endless. The feeling of hope and optimism of past generations is being replaced with an air of despondency, hopelessness and fear of the future. Added to this situation is the breakdown of traditional beliefs, with secularism replacing religion and its associated values and hopes of a future happiness.

The Bible has now been translated into most of the world's languages and dialects, either in whole or in parts, so surely it will not be long now until the end will come, all as Jesus promised. May the Holy Spirit be with you as you read the message.

Michael

"Then, after Satan and his demons, along with all unbelievers have finally been destroyed, the faithful will enjoy eternal life with Him on a new and sinless earth, restored as a Paradise, as it was in the original creation" - well, not quite, no. It goes on to say "Day and night there is no rest for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” which sounds pretty eternal to me. What else is hell for?

So no, Michael. What we have is a worldwide terrorist organisation praying constantly for the destruction of all unbelievers with the intention that their prayers and actions will bring in the "end times", which only they will survive unscathed as inheritors of eternal bliss in the new Eden. And you're telling me they've been doing this for 2,000 years ever since their Leader commissioned them to do it?

On all counts they're the worst terror organisation on the planet, bar none. Nastiest and least effective at the same time.

"The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will weed out of His kingdom every cause of sin and all who practice lawlessness. And they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." No he won't, not if I have anything to say about it. Rehabilitation, that's the way to do it, not this terrorist wet dream fantasy land. Every cause of sin is incompetent governance.

And why are they terrorists? Because of what they do. They have the sole channel of influence with the only God that exists, an all-powerful father figure, and what do they ask for? Sole group entry into eternal paradise in a new Eden, with every person who ever lived without sharing their belief tortured for all time in his special dungeon, hell, by his special torturers, demons, supervised by his special Controller of Evil, Satan. When do they want it? As soon as possible please, God. Bring on the End Times, Lord, we want to see those hell-bound unbelievers thrown into the fiery furnace. Go and ask them, they'll admit it, they're proud of it. Just like Michael.

Sensible people do not want these things.
