I find it intriguing which countries America spills bile on. America is a new country with as much culture - Andy Warhol and Nirvana spring to mind, for example - as the average tinned sardine. The two examples in the cartoon, China and Iran, figure among the summits of world cultures and both have done so for millennia, as have (again picking instances) India, Iraq and Syria. The fact that America continually attempts to destabilize these countries does not make them bad nations, far from it. I would reserve my contempt for the bully on the block and its cartoonists.

That thing with Post 49 just happened again. If anyone sees this as a duplicate post, could they tell me?

Might I also point out that these scum images are both lies with photoshop headlines. Neither the headlines nor the photos exist in my copy of The Times for 29th Sept 2012, which is when that copy was printed. The section titles "Business" and "Politics" have both been edited onto the identical page 61, on which the word "Biden" was conspicuous by its absence.

You know what, tude? It doesn't make the slightest difference whether President-elect Biden survives his old age as far as January or not. I doubt you'd like President Harris any better, and the election is all done and finished. You don't get a choice any longer.

I'm still optimistic about a reversal in the Supreme Court, and Four More Years of the Trump presidency. I wore my MAGA cap in town yesterday and puzzled many locals.

If I were American I think I'd have retired to Guadalajara.

That cartoon would make more sense with a hammer and sickle, President-elect Biden dislikes China.

My usual beret has a hammer and sickle cap-badge on the front.

I'd be delighted, if it's your own and not copy-pasted.. Contemporary culture and present-day vernacular are threaded through both. I'd throw Anthony Burgess in as well, as a prime example.

On the other hand I've never met an English teacher who wouldn't revel in teaching Homer or Shakespeare, regardless of your parody. Perhaps we live in different cultures. The only change in the British school English curriculum that seems relevant is that Shakespeare was at one point mandatory in certain exams and is now, instead, optional. I'd not call that a "purge of all books not reflecting", I think your cartoon is buffoonery based on a lie. Par for the course. Or you might have real-life credible news (as opposed to biased Op-Ed) reports that show I'm mistaken?

The story as I remember was presented as a serial which I found quite annoying. OK, paper burns at 451 degrees, and the story had to do with censorship. It has been at least 50 years since I read it as have zero memory of the plot or what happens, and don't care. I know Bradbery mostly for his science fiction.

1984 was laborious and hard to maintain interest. Didn't bother to give it a second look when 1984 did roll around.

] Contemporary culture and present-day vernacular are threaded through both. I'd throw Anthony Burgess in as well, as a prime example.[/qupte]

I had to google that burgess. All I know about him was the movie Clockwork Orange which I never saw. I mostly remember being popular among the LSD crowd.

Ah, now that is a very interesting link, thank you.

Perhaps we could start with why you think it has anything at all to do with classrooms or teaching. The cartoon is of a classsroom and teachers, the political target of the cartoonist. The cartoonist makes no mention at all of the school libraries. The District is responding to complaints from the public asking for the books to be removed, if I get that right. The teachers, to the best of my knowledge, still teach the texts if they choose to, but the District is avoiding lawsuits by removing all books complained of rather than investigating the complaints.

So, if it's an administrative matter at District policy level, why is there a blackboard and teacher in the cartoon? Don't you think the cartoonist might be simply an unprincipled opportunist shying at an Aunt Sally of his own making?

Father asked the teacher and she answered.

Cartoons are simple, to me the point was quite well illustrated.

I've looked carefully through the article you cited and I can find nothing in it about a father asking or a teacher answering. What's your source, or are you inventing it.
