Flames Engulf Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris

Post by Patsy Warnick »

Special news report the cathedral was going through a renovation could be a contributor to the structure fire.

flames are 250 foot high - doesn't look as if any attempt is being made to fight the fire.

I haven't looked for a link - watching special news report.

Wonder if the insurance company will claim an act of god to get out of paying.

That is so horrible! I just had a mini-lesson the other day about the flying buttresses and their relationship to Trigonometry ad I had lots of cool interior pictures of Notre Dame, the altar, and the stained glass windows. The students loved it. What a terrible tragedy.

And no, screw the insurance company. This was an accident and they need to pay up if it bankrupts them. I'm so sick of insurance companies who are so quick to make people pay up and so quick to try to dodge paying anything out.

As far as I can tell...everyone who every worked for an insurance company is in league with the Devil.

There is never any mention of all the other Catholic churches attacked and vandalized in France it seems. 875 in 2018 alone.

Why do you think that is?

I was last over there & I remember commenting then that th e place was a potential fire trap. The timbers were all treated with tar, and hundred of burning candles all left unattended. Essentially a Church is no different to a Theatre, except that a Theatre has to abide by extremely script Fire Regulations. If anyone one stage has reason to have a naked flame, there has to be 2 people standing by with fire extinguishers, and that flame has to be extinguished at the earliest opportunity. A Church, however, is exempt from any such Laws because of Religion.

Looking at the latest pics, it looks like most of the damage is to the roof structure. A lot of the wood in the main hall is damaged more by water (and falling debris) than fire.

The stone structure held up very well.

Apparently the bees who nest in the roof also survived.

Talk now is about building a new modern style spire to replace the one that fell, rather than restore the old antiquated one.

Funny. I suspect that when the first spire was added, it WAS a modern style - then.
