Convicted for a bad taste joke?

Post by Bruv »

THE SCOT who trained his dog to respond to his calls of "gas the Jews" has been found guilty of posting an offensive message online.

Sheriff Derek O'Carroll found Mark Meechan guilty of communicating a video which was "grossly offensive".

Offensive or not is it worth him being locked up ?

I find ricky gervais's comment annoying, he wasn't convicted in a UK court it was a scottish court :sneaky:

Joking aside to put it in a bit more context we have a serious problem with sectarianism in scotland there has recently been a massive debate about the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act which was pased in 2011 to try and stop the intimidation violence at football matches the opposition want to repeal it as having been ineffective. religious bigotry is a deadly serious issue although it's a hard one to deal with, if you are going to take down all the ira you tube postings you would have to also take down the anti-catholic ones not to mention all tye anti-muslim ones nigel farage would be prosecuted for inciting hatred against immigrants.

It was deliberately offensive but it's unlikely he will be locked more likely fined or a community dervice order.

It is not only grossly offensive, given the history of the sentiment and the active policy of doing just that it is a hate crime.

Jail? I doubt it but he should be hit where it hurts until he realises how serious it is - to call it a joke is lame, the best he could come up with as mitigation.

I challenge anyone to come up with a joke that isn't hurtful to someone.

A three-legged dog walks into a saloon in the Old West. He sidles

up to the bar and announces:

"I'm lookin' for the man who shot my paw."
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

That's because in living memory no one has tried to wipe out your entire tribe, most often using the method of gas. It's not a joke, it's a man who is a total jerk. No, I don't think he should be jailed for it, I believe in the right of protected free speech, unless used to incite an action, which I don't believe he was doing. He's a moron, plain & simple, but he is not a comedian either.

He's a pathetic tosser who is unlikely to get a custodial sentence. Surprised his girlfriend is still with him it was her dog after all.

Racist liar. Too stupid not to be. If he's respected in his local community lock him up. If he's regarded as pathetic caution him and let him go.
The crowd: "Yes! We are all individuals!"

Lone voice: "I'm not."

What's really pathetic is the cost it must have taken to take it through the legal system in the first place.

Youtube had been asked to remove it, but they had refused as it was not considered to have broken their T&Cs (although it has since been removed).

The ironic part is that it's got far more publicity now than it ever would have from just having it on YouTube.

To be honest, at first I thought he had managed to train the dog to fart on command, rather than just lift its paw. Now that would have been a trick.
