RIP....BETTY CUTHBERT
She has died at 79.
She was 18 when she won triple gold in 56' in the Melbourne olympics.
100, 200, and 100 relay. No olympian since has done that.
Her 100 gold was run in 11.05 seconds
And again won gold in Tokyo with injury four years later.
She's considered as one of the golden girls of that period.
She has battled with MS since 1969.

The BBC has a link headline "Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announce separation after eight years".
I have until now never heard of either of them but I do note the linked stories at the bottom of the article - "Anna Faris: Cohen is a 'comic genius'" (referencing the Borat actor) and "Chris Pratt arm wrestle challenge".
It cannot take much effort to recognize that these are rich properties with publicists. What baffles me is that the BBC reports the content of their gormless self-serving press releases.

In truth the BBC isn't much of a publication - I put it on par with Politico, a publication which sickens me. There really isn't much in the way of quality news information outlets out there.

The BBC from its outset has offered the British people programmes to educate, inform and entertain. The website adjunct to its news department is a trivial and temporary afterthought, newly arrived and already in desperate need of reform and improvement.

Yeah, that's how I always viewed The BBC, sort of like our PBS, though PBS has been going to $hit lately. Some of the programmings on The BBC are outstanding.

Its recently been alledged that Putins and other rich Russians business dealings are illegal. If Trump has been doing business with them there will be trouble. Even Trumps business dealings in SE Asia are a bit iffy.

The next generation of people watching as their peers die off - each waiting for their time and hoping it won't be painful.
I came close one night not long ago. I woke up to my lungs filling with fluid. Gasping for air as I sat up I found myself angry that I wasn't capable to just allow it to happen. I understand there's a point at which there's no more struggle. I so wanted to get there but fought for air.
I'm considering it a trial run and hoping to do better next time.
My mother-in-law died that way. She called from her basement apartment upstairs to her daughter. They made out that she said she couldn't breathe. By the time they made it to her she was blue and peaceful and pushed them away when they tried to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

That is true. My first experience with Alzheimer's Dementia was my paternal grandmother. She began that horrible journey at 64. and finally was put to rest at 86.
It haunts me every time I cannot remember someone's name.

My mother had Alzheimer's in her later years. Some days she would remember me and other days not. One day, when she didn't remember me, I asked her about her son and she regaled me with very detailed and factual stories about my childhood, including some things I never knew before.

Theres a rowl going on in Australia at the moment about. "Milk" . Apparently i may get confused between milk from a cow and soy milk.
The dairy industry wants to stop extracts from plants being called 'milk' .... traditionally known to be taken from an animal.
Im not sure about you lot but im pretty sure i know the difference between something that goes "moo" and a tree. Im not confused at all.

Now i dont really care what she wears to any event, but i did think about how removed from reality some people are when they are entering a disaster zone looking like you're about to stroll down a catwalk.
Bit of a slap in the face for the victims when the bosses wife obviously isnt getting her feet wet.

Yeah, I think its a real danger for rich people. They are so used to being entitled and protected that they really don't realize what total jerks the rest of the human race sees them as. The only rich person I ever saw that didn't have attitude was Princess Diana.

Oh she had attitude, all right. She was quite likeable, but didn't take an crap from anyone.
I used to know a number of rich people who didn't have that rich people attitude. I remember this one older couple who lived on Jupiter Island. They did all their own gardening, and would haul dirt and plants and stuff in their old Rolls, pumped their own gas, and would have lunch at the truck stop. They would tip generously and donated to a lot of charities. They delightful people.
Then there was Polly Carnegie, "the Cross Red Nurse" who spent her time helping poor people in Tallahassee, and making sure that young folks were exposed to Arts.
If I ever get rich, I promise to be like those folks.

The issue is that it's discrimination in the course of trade. If the head of Google Adsense decided that as a committed born-again Christian her conscience would not allow her to accept any advertising offers from gay applicants presumably there would be a legitimate outcry. Trade wise....Whats lawfully funny, is if christians vote for same sex marriage they will be protected under the freedom of religion laws. Freedom of religion would protect them from having to participate in a practice against their religion.
But....
If they were to refuse participating in a civil union they would be breaking anti discrimination laws.
So to vote Yes to gay marriage would be in their best interest. Lol

And my son informs me that a Pastor near where i live is in the anti tv ads.
Talking of which....they dont make sense. One woman -a doctor...says that these extreme beliefs wont sit well with chinese parents. Last time i checked im not in china.

As Lars says, it's a donations page. Donations appeals are pretty much against T&C so I broke a rule.
I saw the page mentioned on Heather Lende's blog which I get by email - the blog post is at Wet Dogs and Hurricanes | Heather Lende and she's well worth reading each week. She lives in the back of beyond in Alaska so she has perspective and neighbors who matter.

The 'radical' left just wants everyone to have food, shelter, healthcare, education and a living wage. Man that's radical!....ooooohhhh Scary!

It always amazes me, the herd mentality of humans under stress.
I am following a couple of threads on other forums regarding the Hurricane (Irma) making its way toward Florida.
I also have a lot of family and friends in South Florida, preparing to either hunker down and ride it out, or to leave for higher ground.
People are leaving by the thousands, and they all seem to be packing the major highway, I-75, I-95, and the Florida Turnpike. Those roads are completely clogged.
A Google Map of the state will show a number of other roads leading out of Florida to safer, high ground, far from the forecast track of the storm. Yet, enabling "Traffic" on Maps will show most of these roads are clean and green for hundreds of miles, while the two Interstate highways are nearly completely red, indicating stalled, or very slow moving traffic.
A few years ago, we lived in Eastern North Carolina when Mitch was coming. I was working for a support Call Center near Research Triangle Park at the time. We decided to go to a hotel near the call center. The Interstate Highway was horribly clogged as people fled the lowlands. I decided to try another highway (US-70) which the Interstate paralleled. It was completely clear of traffic, as everybody though the interstate was the only way to go.
The US Highway crossed the interstate several times on the way to Raleigh, and we could see the parking lot each time. Yet none of those people ever seemed to think of exiting the parking lot and driving the "back roads"

And what about the sign language guys?
Ive had enough of these people! They are way to distracting!
The bloke i saw this morning looked like he was going for an academy award. What a bloody performance!
I hardly heard the official and what he was saying about waters rising to 6 to 12 foot , he was being upstaged by the handsign guy.

I know a little sign language, and try to follow those people, sometimes. It's really hard to follow the words, and the sign, sometimes, and I get completely lost.

The answer to the sign language guys is to invariably refuse to watch any program where they can't be turned off. As an optional extra they're no doubt useful, but when they're a requirement the channel selector is the only form of protest.
