Excellent question. When it was discovered so many did not like Obamacare, it was because so many (like yours truly) thought it did not go far enough. You made a very good point. Polls are weak in the pulse checking department as the pollsters do not question in depth.

Geeze, man talking? That boy is sick and needs some serious couch time with a shrink.

I would expect that from a 20-year-old nudnick, not a 60-year-old "man". How many times since as a 70-year-old running for president make insulting comments about women?

Momus;1501748 wrote: You think women never talk like that? I've heard school girls on buses that would put Trump to shame.

School girls? One can only hope they grow out of it and become ladies. Trumphole is a lost cause.

Momus;1501748 wrote: Give me a man who talks like a man

Based on what you just wrote I doubt you really know man talk.

Momus;1501748 wrote: over a proven liar.

Good one.

That is a novel take on it.

I take some pride in my voting record. This year I will take equal pride in that I am not voting for H or T. Some things are just fate.

I apologize for not being all that clear.

NOBODY is getting my vote. I am NOT a libertarian. There are some things I like about libertarians, not enough to ever make me vote for one.

Reminds me of one time I went to the polls and everything was an up-down vote on judges, people I knew nothing about and I looked at the ballot and made no vote. I made the trip just to show I went to vote.

This year all my votes will be for state and local officials.

The only enthusiasm I have is to re-elect the local sheriff, who appointed me Marshal of my city (he does have a sense of humor).

What does it mean to be Marshal? Do you have any duties? Like warrants, process servings, evictions? That's what a Marshal does in NYC (I think).

LOL

The Sheriff and I frequent a convenience store and on occasion see each other. I think it was one day I wore a t-shirt of a rock band the Mrs. stepfather use to play. As I approached gave him the V finger peace sign and told him PEACE BROTHER.

I think he got a kick out of it. He is the one who fingerprinted me for my conceal carry license. I also know his son, and it is no secret where I live. Just one day he asked me how things were going on in my city and I reported: "it's all good, apathy reigns".

Since then I try to have a new report for him and he told me once I was the town Marshall.

It is all just fun.

I find the release of an eleven year old private conversation far less acceptable than publishing emails disclosing the relevant current insider chicanery of how Mrs Clinton reached the play-off.

But you would agree there are a large number of adult vote-enabled Americans who think he's funny, personable and refreshingly honest because of this "deplorable" aspect? And that they may well turn out next month and vote for him in the Presidential election?

In which case the deplorability might be a net vote-winner.

I find him entertaining and engagingly refreshing in his lack of subtlety........as a TV personality. I wouldn't want him as a neighbour or vote for him, his ego is big enough already.

The question relates to large numbers of people and proportions. A system where one person gets to choose the next President of the United States has not yet been implemented.

Nobody claiming moral sensibility supports President Trump in the first place so I can't imagine how the leaked private conversation will reduce his voter turnout.

It does seem to be that with every appearance Trump makes he manages to find a new way to turn masses of certain groups against him. Sexism, Racism, LGBT, Honest Taxpayers.... The list just goes on. I swear he is the American equivalent to Lord Sutch. Mind you, I seriously do believe that if, by some remote possibility, he does get voted in, I doubt he will survive long enough to get sworn in. That is not a matter of wishing anything on anybody. I just see it as a real possibility.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky

Vladimir Zhirinovsky sounds like a serious person on paper. He's a colonel in the Russian army, Vice-Chairman of the State Duma (the lower house of Russia’s legislature), a member of the Parliamentary Assembly Council of Europe, and, most notably, the founder and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia. But a quick Google search reveals that he’s earned his reputation as the insane clown prince of Russian politics.

The Russian Trump twin. Somehow he does not seem to be a threat to the stability of the Putin regime.

Not sure if speeches in Spanish has ever been done before?

Both Camps have been in AZ working very hard. But speaking Spanish is a first.

the polling places are open more than just on the day of the election. Anyone who wants to, within a certain time frame, can avoid the crowds and go dow to their designated station (in my case a city museum) to cast a vote...and take a chance on getting shot by a stormtrumper.

Most strange.........how long normally is this period ?

I am hearing many votes have been cast already, do these remain secret, locked in the ballot box or are they electronic votes, with the possibility of being hacked ?

Over here, unless they are postal votes for the armed services or the house bound, we have to get our butts down the polling station between 7.00 am and 10.00 pm on THE day, that seems reasonable to me.

Anyone in England can apply for a postal vote if it adds to their convenience - a worry that they may be out of town on the day, for example.

I have a postal vote. I'm not housebound.

If the US electronic system were proposed for use in Russia, everyone would assume it was rigged. The UK has a verifiable paper trail which is archived in case a court orders its inspection. There's no possibility of an audit of a US election. There's no possibility of observing the behavior of a US voting machine either, and I note they're online and that their programs can be swapped by remote administrators without an event trail being left. I find it shocking that the US public accepts this state of affairs as though they were impotent sheep.

Both paper and electronic, although the electronic votes cannot be hacked short of physically going to each voting machine and hotwiring it. The machines do not connect to the internet or any other network.

Yes, it seems reasonable to you because your country has civilization close by everywhere you turn and is not very big, in geographical terms.

Where I live there are approximately 785,000 square miles of empty territory between any city, over a 1000 miles in any direction to a metro area....good luck traveling to or from that in a day.:-3

I didn't know we could apply for a postal vote just because we want to.

And I can only agree with you if the vote can't be checked. Surely these days electronic voting should be safe enough......but worrying.

To be safe it would have to be verified by a public body of integrity. The US voting machines aren't.

I have just committed sacrilege, hunting through cupboards to turn up a 12 year old Glenlivet last seen in 2014 and an unopened bottle of Crabbes Ginger Wine in order to take a Lemsip in boiling water. In exchange I may still be alive when I wake tomorrow.

Lemsip ?

Think you only need a kettle for that.

You would have been better supping a quarter of the Glenlivet then retiring early with a hot water bottle......throw the Lemsip away.

It's 2.11am here and I'm watching Andrew Neil, I should be certified.

There's no hint at all who might have won. That's riveting.

I started the evening juicing a kilo of red berries and making it up to 40%abv. My word it was bitter.

50g of sugar later, the 300ml I made up is quite tolerable. The US election is quite educational. I have no intention of finishing the carafe.

Andrew Neil actually sounds sober which shows how big the event is.

Where's Richard Dimbleby or Cliff Michelmore when you need him. Where's Robert Robinson or the supremely reliable Anthony King?

I just watched Paul Ryan, who seems to be a repellent clap-now-I-just-mentioned-God creep.

Will President Trump run for a second term?

Post by spot »

Okay, I just saw Ohio called.

I'm going to predict.

President Trump has indeed won this Presidential election.

Had Ms Rodham remained true to her principles then I'd feel sympathy for her, but she didn't.

Hillary Rodham's 1969 Student Commencement Speech was one of the finest moments is America's history. Secretary of State Clinton's performance had nothing to do with that idealism.

On a lighter note, I dressed all in blue and wore a Peace symbol button on my lapel just to mess with the pointy heads...lol
