What are you doing for Christmas day?

Post by alexsowter »

Hi, I'm relatively new to this forum, but am a keen gardener, especially when it comes to Urban Gardening.

I was wondering what gardening related gifts you give at Christmas?

I work at an NGO which works with smallholder farmers who have been learning from their innovative approach to gardening.

For example, they've recently taken inspiration from smallholder farmers to design a beehive, vertical garden and bug trap for the home. The products are super cheap at $15 (~£10), due to them being made out of foldable material. Anyone can use them! Kids are using the vertical garden to grow food.

Would love to get your feedback, and if you like them, your support! All the proceeds go charity, and will be used to help smallholder farmers in the form of climate change resilience and much much more.

You can see the campaign here: http://igg.me/at/smallfolders/x/12716695

As you get older, you never real enjoy Christmas, thats the problem. Too many responsibilities at you daily life.

So everytime that Christmas are coming and you is time for relaxing with your family, I just think what comes next (when the vacations will finish). I cannot control and enjoy my vacations. Damn, I missed when I was a kid and I was believing to SANTA CLAUS.

my oldest daughter is hosting. We booked a mid range Motel near her home, for myself and hubby, other daughter and hubby, and my folks. One of the rooms we booked has a wee kitchenette so we can help daughter out a little with some of the cooking and then we can converge upon her for a glorious fun Christmas time with her and her kiddies. I can't wait.

Nothing out of the ordinary. I might fix something broken or just generally make sure everything is in good order.

What's special about xmas? It's just another day of the year.

I could quite happily cancel it completely.

AWE NO!!!!!

Christmas is the best when you have wee ones.

I have grand kids so I love Christmas.

Also my parents are aging, it's special for them to be around the entire family. For us it's about the gathering, the food and family and drink. (not necessarily in that order mind you)

This may well be the first year my five year old will get excited about it all, he's been a bit bewildered so far. Trouble is I have a houseful so I miss it all being stuck in the kitchen getting dinner on the table for a pre-determined time demanded by my Mother, nothing is ever good enough and it's just not at all happy or fun for me hence why I'd rather just cancel the whole bloody thing.

I think it's a bit over-rated really and far too commercialised. I'm so glad i've gone beyond having a young family at Christmas. I suppose I must be getting old, because I can remember the great fun we had when my son was still believing in Father Christmas. It was quite magical really. These days I prefer to have a quiet Christmas and chill out with a drop of brandy in one hand and a mince pie in the other !

Mind you, this year I think things will be a bit different somehow. We've been invited to some friends for Christmas day and stopping over-night to enjoy finishing up the cold cuts and wine on Boxing day ! There will be a houseful with their daughter and her children and hubby - we calculated 15 ! It's a good job there's a fairly capacious conservatory ! :yh_rotfl

awe Betty with luck one year it will be fun, for both you and the kids.

Gill, yes I have magical memories from my childhood Christmas times.

They were so fun, lots of family, lots of food, drink, of course gifts but it's not the gifts I remember it's the family time. The joy, the love.

The Missus and I are still way behind with the basket order for Easter. No Xmas celebrations for us. Can't be helped.
