Jeremy Corbyn?

Post by FourPart »

Being a member of Unison I've been plagued with spam emails from Leadership Candidates begging for my vote. The only one I know of is Jeremy Corbyn. He certainly seems to be the only one to have any leadership qualities. He was also the only one in his spams to even think to ask if I'd received my ballot yet. As it happens, I haven't received it, despite my asking about how to go about getting my vote, which as a member of Unison I am entitled to. I replied to the email, as stated, trying to chase it up. I still haven't received anything, yet I received another eMail this morning reminding me that I only have until the 10th to place my vote. If I COULD, I WOULD, but no one has thought to tell me HOW, despite my repeated requests.

Well done Jeremy Corbyn, I'm absolutely delighted.

He took over 50% of the Labour Party Membership vote, he took over 50% of the trade unionist vote and he took over 50% of those who signed up to take part for £3. Every category, no run-off, straight in on the first count.

New Labour is dead, thank the lord and not before time. The agony of having to watch Blunderboy Miliband is finally over, Tony Blair probably increased the winning margin just by being stupid enough to address the issue in public, still not understanding that he was and is seen as an unprincipled renegade running-dog of both Capitalism and the American Empire.

The Common People extends its immediate and heartfelt congratulations to Mr Corbyn on this long-delayed return of Socialist principles to English and Welsh politics, and on his well-deserved election as Party Leader. We look forward to presenting an alternative vision to the electorate of what a practical Socialist policy actually looks like but meanwhile, finally, the Labour Party has rediscovered its backbone and emphatically turned away from the capitalist aberration of the last two decades.

If he has any sense he'll purge the membership of everyone who was ever associated with the Blair government. Why on earth would anyone want to keep them. It would cleanse the Labour Party, burn off the contamination, let the grassroots flourish. The message has to be either you support Socialist values or you have no place in the Labour movement, and it applies as much to sitting MPs as it does to fresh applicants.

Despite having always been a staunch Labour voter, I have never been an official member of any Political Party. I have now, for the first time ever, joined the Labour Party as an official Paid Up Party Member.

I think he has to tread carefully. The lead up seen some in fighting which he very cleverly rose above, he needs to continue in the same manner.

The ones stepping out of line appear to be the Blairites...

Within two hours it was clear that Rachel Reeves, Emma Reynolds, Tristram Hunt, Chris Leslie and Liz Kendall as well as Cooper would not serve under his leadership.

Chuka Umunna, the shadow business secretary who congratulated Corbyn before adding that winning office was the ultimate way to put Labour values into action, is also expected to return to the backbenches.

What I find curious is that there are these who say they will be resigning their place on the Shadow Cabinet. Surely, as Leader of the Opposition it is his job to form his Shadow Cabinet - something he has not yet done. Therefore, how can anyone say they are resigning from a job they do not hold or have not yet even been offered?

The exiting Shadow Cabinet are making their displeasure shown, that is the best thing if they are so opposed.

The exaggerations and distortions have begun HERE

I don't know if the reason for his divorce is a plus or minus, it clearly shows he has solid principles HERE

It won't be corbyn that tear labour apart this time it'll be the blairites. I find it ironic that they resign from the shadow cabinet on principle while previously advocating that principles be set aside so they can get elected.

I just hope we get some actuall discussion rather than consent trading of sound bites.

It's scarcely as though anyone in the country could have named them, recognized them or had an inkling who they actually were. They're not going to be missed.

Definitely misleading hedadlines. What he said was

“Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every politician around the world instead of taking pride in the size of their armed forces did what the people of Costa Rica have done and abolished the army and took pride in the fact that they don’t have an army, and that their country is near the top of the global peace index. Surely that is the way we should be going forward.”

Which is a sentiment most sane people would agree with. Also many are oopposed to renewing trident conflating that with leaving nato is the daily mail at it's best. He's not a dictator who will be ablet o do as he wants if he becopmes PM he has to get his party and parliamnt to agree with his policies. Currently we are foisted with a party and policies that the vast majority of the country actually voted against. If you read only the sun and the daily mail you end up with really strange views on things.

We now have donald trump wanting to build up the armed forces and make america strong again. Who is he going to attack? They can already destrpy the world with the nuclear waeapons in existence being able to do it several times over may not be a thimg to go for. It's insane.

As to the national anthem the sixth verse ratyher makes a mockery of the national bit altghouigh caneron might share the sentiment

Lord grant that Marshal Wade

May by thy mighty aid

Victory bring.

May he sedition hush,

And like a torrent rush,

Rebellious Scots to crush.

God save the King!

And he has smartened up by wearing a tie.

Had it been last year instead of forty years ago - FORTY years ago! - it would still be none of the Telegraph's business, though it might have left Mr Portillo feeling a bit spare.

That Currie woman practically had a bed installed in the Cabinet Office and nobody seems to have minded.

Everybody has a past and I don't condemn him for that, and yes I find Ms Abbot and her faux accent and affectations irritating to say the least.

He is a man with ideals and she is a bit of a chancer, in my opinion.

He has the lowest expense claims for an MP while she was investigated for undisclosed earnings, his child was sent to the local Comprehensive school while she sent her son to an expensive public school.

I respect him for his simple honesty and consistency, she is like a negative of him.......literally.

Reading that article it says "alleged" to have been lovers. It doesn't say who made the allegation. It was "reported" that they went on a motorbike holiday together. Reported by who? Surprisingly, it doesn't say.

Even if it were true, so what? What if they were lovers? Furthermore, I've been on holiday with various friends. It doesn't make us lovers.

I would really have expected more of the Telegraph. This is nothing more than grasping at straws. They've not provided any sources for their allegations, or anything.

So far, the more I've seen of him, the more I like him. He seems to lack the pretentiousness of other politicians. More of a "Take me as I am. If you don't like it - tough". He is also the only one of the other non-entity candidates who seems to have any character.

Methinks the jury is still out. If you just read the mainstream press you'd think the tories are the bees knees. In scotland the whole debate has shifted up several gears. The labour mafia is no trying to fix the list msp selection so the former MP's get on it and oust those who were already there fair to say the electorate are not terribly impressed.

Should Corbyn go ?

The present situation is untenable, the parliamentary party against him, but with majority support of Labour members and rising.....maybe.

If he gets overwhelmingly re-elected.....what next ?

Is it time for him to step down for unity of the party, or is it time to do a Farage and create a real party with left wing ideals of the old Labour party ?

Or......could Spot be ready to invite him to lead The Peoples Party...........after a democratic vote obviously.

The PLP members who are rebelling against him are all members who were originally voted in on the back of Blair's Tory-Lite politics. All of those that resigned from the Cabinet were ones that abstained on Cameron's Welfare Cuts. Those that remained loyal & continued to support Jeremy all opposed them. In essence, the PLP are not much different to Tories wearing Red Ties. Why else do you think they introduced the £25 registration fee. The Labour Party was founded on the principle of fighting for the working man. The poor & needy. The £25 fee means that the ones who are able to afford it are more likely to be Right Wing inclined, with a better income, which goes totally against the Labour Party principles. The PLP did their best to keep Jeremy off the ballot, because they know that once he's on it they wouldn't have a hope in Hell of his being returned as Leader - mot likely with an even bigger majority than the one he was originally voted in on.

It doesn't really make any difference whether you think he's the best person for the job as Leader or not, the fundamental principle here is Democracy. Jeremy was voted in by the vast majority of Labour Party Members, such as myself, who have a right to choose who they want as their Leader. It is not the place of a minority group of die-hard Blairites to make the decision as to whether all those members made the right choise or not. Bear in mind that Jeremy's mandate was not a close call. It was a massive 60% majority, plus ever since he was elected as Leader, Party Membership has not stopped growing. Even with the £25 fee there are still members joining the Party to support him.

As for Smith & Eagle - What a comedy double-act...

Personally, I don't see any chance of him losing. I would say that there is, indeed, the possibility of a breakaway splinter group party forming. It's happened before. Remember the SDP, later to become the SDLP? Where are they now?

Quite frankly, the Labour Party does not need rebels who can't accept Democratic Decisions. They are the type that cause Party Divisions, and would be best shot of them. Get rid of the rotten apples from the barrel, I say.

That worked.

I also find it funny at the spin that keeps coming out - that's he's concentrating on brainwashing the young. It's not brainwashing - he appeals to them as they are the future, and they can see that what he says makes sense. No wonder May doesn't want the voting age to be lowered to 16.

I also found it funny how a spoof article was written about Jeremy Corbyn snubbing the Veteran's Day Celebration in favour of Glastonbury, yet the Daily Fail picked up on it as a genuine article, which later inevitably found its way to the Britain First Facebook page. Also picked up that the Queen had also snubbed the Veteran's Day Celebration in favour of Ascot. One spin for one, and one for another.

All it's going to take now is for just a couple of Tory MPs to have a shred of confidence - or not turn up to a vote (as is most likely with my MP, Royston Smith, who literally has the worst attendance record there is), and their 2 seat majority is blown. A new General Election is inevitable, and I wonder how many borderline Tory voters will have been impressed with her cosying up up to the DUP with a blatant Money For Votes deal harvested from the Magic Money Tree.

They did better than expected in scotland, what old/new labour could not graso is they were losing votes as labour was no linger a left wing party. The snp won the majority of the westminster seats (35) yet it's still portrayed as them losing the election in scotland. Previous highest number of snp westminster MP's was 11.
