Sure, quit eating so much, and exercise. :wah:
Seriously, though, we have become a lazy nation. Everything we need or want is at our fingertips, we don't have to get up to do anything. It is totally avoidable, but people just don't care. We're lazy, plain and simple.

can you provide a reference/link to that article? The premise is false - obesity has been a malady for thousands of years. it's definitely not a new phenomenon.

Hmmm thinking back I am sure there were a few obese kings in the day. I just think currently obesity is happening more and more at a younger age and this is why it is raising concern as well we now know more about the results of life long obesity. Bad stuff, get those kids off the couch and computers and hike, bike, skate etc.

Obesity and Prevention
I have always been on the small side, usually between 86 pounds and 105 pounds, however in the last year , my weight went up and down, so many times, for women I do beleive it is hard to lose weight, the older we get becuase of the menopause thing, and certain prescriptions cause considerable weight gain, I am pushing 120 pounds, and I DO watch what I eat. So , how am I gaining weight.
I am very active.
-Anyway I do beleive that some people eat when sad, or depressed, this lady I work with said she was really fat(her words, not mine) as a child, and thats why she is today. At one setting, she eats enough for 3 people, I am not kidding we are the same age, she looks double my age.
America is the most lazy and Rude country. My friend is from India, actually I have several that are from there, and they said the most incredible experience was the first time they went to Farmer Jacks (grocery store) everything all in one place.
They tell of a starving country, where you dont just hop in the car and hit the Dairy Queen.
-We are lucky to have all we have.
I just dont want to wear what we have on my butt:wah:

I think there has always been Obese people in the world....There are MORE obese people now for several reasons...
1. We take the car on every journey (short or long) we make and we take the kids to school by car etc - Lack of exercise
2. We have more money to over indulge...cakes, sweets, drinks, eating out etc.
3. There is so much choice in the shops nowadays so we are always trying something new and we buy too much 'ready made' convenience food
4. Much of the food we buy has hidden 'nasties' in it...chemicals, sugar, additives etc.
5. The western world is becoming lazy both in physical and 'taking responsibility' terms
6. One of the most popualr pastimes is sitting in front of the TV (scoffing 'stuff')
I am a 'little' overweight myself due to all the factors I have listed except no 6....I know what I shouldn't eat in excess...cheese, peanut butter, chocolate etc....but hey....they are scrummy .....

Obesity and Prevention
When I was growing up we didn't have chicken nuggets and frozen pizzas in the fridge like we do now. I cook a proper meal every night, but I still have all the other stuff for snacking on.
It's all to easy to access now, and always right infront of you when you go to the mall, free dougnuts with your coffee etc. I always have trouble resisting, I always think tomorrow I'll try harder.
Too much yummy food around.

I know here we have a rapidlyl growing number of obese children, and one of the main concerns for us, is our life styles. Our city has a bad reputation of being extremely fast paced, with this come terrible eating habits, eating on the run, grabbing fast foods, eating while at your desk, or in your car, or at your computer, and guess who follows these foot steps.... our children. Pity really.

Dang!
First they tell me to stop smoking. "It'll kill ya!"
Then they tell me "You're getting fat. That'll kill ya!"
It's just too much stress! I need another good stiff drink. I'm still seeing single.
Don't forget. a few years ago they changed the standard of obesity, lowering the body fat ratio. That automatically made more people fit the new definition. Then they go running around crying about a sudden increase in obese people. This message brought to you by Jenny Craig.
And another thing! Psychologists say "Pity the obese, for they eat to cope with stress." What are they stressed about, you ask? Why, being overweight, of course! Every time they step on the scale, they feel so depressed they need another quart of Hagenwhatever. I like Ben & Jerry because it's easier to spell.
