The only difference between online spam & nuisance phone calls is the cost (hence far more email spams). It is illegal under UK laws to go against those on the TPS register but, of course, that rule doesn't apply to off shore call centres, which is why we constantly get plagued with calls from some barely understandable Indian accent trying to get us to change our energy supplier / claim PPI / claim on some accident etc. When you get these phone calls at all hours can you really say that you are happy to receive these calls because you feel sympathy for the downtrodden Indian worker & it helps to support his family? If you do, they quite frankly I don't believe you.

Making the calls illegal is clearly not the answer, as it doesn't apply outside of the country. What is more likely to have more effect (although it obviously wouldn't affect offshore companies) would be to ban the use of such call / "media publicity" centres (as they tend to promote themselves as nowadays).

I am not sure how this thread degenerated from taking the 'P' out of a spammer to belittling and insulting the efforts of our brave soldiers, sailors and airmen !

But it has disgusted me that you, spot, seem to have done precisely that - to say that people signing on and taking the 'Queen's shilling' and been consequently wounded or killed have brought that upon themselves.

They were protecting their families and their country, spot. They were only too determined to be part of a fighting force that beat a madman and his brainwashed forces, thus saving the British Isles from being over-run and enslaved by this maniac. Maybe you are a pacifist, but surely you must be grateful to all those other people who fought and died in order that the country of your birth should remain free of tyranny.

Make no mistake, spot, Adolf Hitler would have preferred it if Britain joined forces with him, and if that wasn't happening then he would have invaded Britain ! Well Britain did not want to join forces with that madman, so he prepared to invade ! However, eventually Britain invaded him instead.

As for your comment - And you can take that as yet another red poppy burned. gives me the impression that you are sympathetic to that gang of hate-filled Muslims who desecrated the line of coffins containing our dead soldiers being brought back for burial in their home country. You disgust and disappoint me spot.

I would agree if you were applying this rationale to Germany prior to WW2, but I rather fancy you are applying it to this country instead. You could, of course, try reeding the book. AJP Taylor was a very well-informed and respected historian. What you've claimed in this thread has absolutely no bearing on reality, it is (as I said earlier) sheer Jingoist tosh. He will leave you better informed and less liable to spout off quite so inaccurately in future.

Continually, as you say, is deliberate. Yes, I do know that.

AJP Taylor did, in fact, "write a whole book" on the origins of World War Two (and several on World War One, as well). It's top-league stuff. I brought the one-chapter version into the thread because it's focused very much on what we were discussing, it uses shorter sentences and it has pictures.

I'm not here to justify anything Spot says. I'm still not sure how to take his reply to my post. But I understand his view on patriotism. Its divisive most of the time rather than bringing people together. Its the anthem of the Right. You MUST wave a flag, sing God Save The Queen or your not worthy. You're not English. I refuse to play to their tune.

I'm a former member of the Armed Forces and I was probably as keen on a bit of jingoistic patriotism myself as a ner ner ner nineteen year old. Now it just all pisses me off. My dad's country is bigger than your dad's.

And please dont lecture me on sacrifice.

I seriously doubt it if he comes over the same way you do! I mean every word that I have posted on this issue, and I truly find your attitude, and lack of gratefulness to our brave men (and women) who sacrificed everything utterly repugnant, sickening and craven. You should take a long look at yourself, and your attitude to the many who died for you.

FourPart stop encouraging him.............Mr Spot has a personal campaign to alter the spellings of several words, red for 'I have read, reed as 'to read'............I know.......it's not big and it's not clever...............but noticing it will only encouraging him further in this abomination.

It means that I tend to respond (in some cases rather sharply) to statements (and sentiments) that I heartily disagree with, such as "And you can consider that another red poppy burned" (Spot)- it's what those rabble-rousing Muslim hard-liners did at Royal Wootton Bassett when our war dead were being repatriated!

As it goes, I felt that I had better 'walk away' from this issue, hence not being on-site for a few days. I've said what was on my mind, and as far as I'm concerned, this issue is now closed.

It's the wording, as you'd know if you thought how you'd feel if someone said it to you: "he does so at his peril". Perhaps it's just something typically Northern, Six wrote that way too in among his threats to burn down churches and kill vicars.
