Apparently this beautiful and fascinating photograph was taken in Spain, at a place called the 'Beach of Cathedrals' or something simiar. The photo was taken by Bethany Harris.............

I started a thread just to show the wonders of nature, on another site, and when I'd posted the five photos, a guy comes on and very cleverly  posts a rather silly short video of a guy walking with a pal in the countryside and he shouted out that 'Mother Nature's a whore !!!! ' and it was a short video taken from a selection of what I would term as cartoon pornography ! Makes me wonder what makes some of these guys tick. He must have taken quite a time to find that particular video, or maybe he had it on his 'Bookmarks'. All they seem to think about is sex in it's most sordid form and gutter obscenities ! What sad people they are. Needless to say I have said nothing in reply to him, and I've come on here to share these gorgeous photos with FG members - I know that they will be appreciated here ! I shall think seriously about returning at all to that other site, as some of the language on there is gross ! I had nothing but abuse a couple of weeks ago when I mentioned all the f...ing and blinding on one of the threads, and I was told that if I was so fragile then I'd better not come on the internet !!

So after this latest episode, I find myself thinking that I do not have to put up with such profanities and rudeness. I will just patronise Forum Garden. At least there is a code of conduct on here, and people for the most part are civil with each other. I just cannot see the point of being rude and of cursing and swearing all the time - shows a certain lack of control and civilised education IMO. Don't get me wrong, I can swear as loudly and as long as the next person, if something has really got to me (out of childrens' earshot though :lips: ), or I have hurt myself !

Anyway, I hope you like the photos and maybe think they are briliant like I do. :)

I am of the opinion that there is a time and a place for everything. The internet is a big place, big enough for all types, taste and class of people. I visit a site where recently a vote was taken on the site-wide use of the f-word and it is now accepted as the norm, it wasn't my choice, but I can go along with the majority, I haven't noticed an increase in it's use.

Good for you Gill, move on to where you are happy.

I just got the feeling that, after my querying all the f.....ing and blinding that was being bandied about every couple or so words, I was being systematically 'got at'. I'm not a coward but I'm not in the mood for a slanging match and handbags at dawn stuff, so they can stuff their site as far as I'm concerned. All I want is to enjoy a bit of banter, leg-pulling, and interesting chat, and have a happy time with a few friends each day. I wasn't able to do that on that other site, and it seems that most sites seem to allow bad language and general rudeness these days. Not Forum Garden though, I'm pleased to say. Long may it last ! Forum Garden, you're a one-off it seems ! :yh_clap :yh_worshp

FG is a pretty decent site, especially when compared to most of the others, who are IMO, little better than forums for trolls and knuckle-draggers! If it can't be said without profanities, is it worth saying at all? Profanity in extremis is understandable, but over-use merely demonstrates lack of education and/or manners.

Stick to FG, G#Gill!

Just to lighten the mood a little joke ! ......................................

Four old timers were playing their weekly game of golf, one remarked how nice it would be to wake up on Christmas morning, roll out of bed and without an argument go directly to the golf course, meet his buddies and play a round of golf.

*

His buddies all chimed in said, "Let's do it! We'll make it a priority; figure out a way and meet here early, Christmas morning."

*

Months later, that special morning arrives, and there they are on the golf course. The first guy says, "Boy this game cost me a fortune! I bought my wife a diamond ring that she can't take her eyes off it."

The second guy says, "I spent a ton too. My wife is at home planning the cruise I gave her. She was up to her eyeballs in brochures."

*

The third guy says "Well my wife is at home admiring her new car, reading the manual."

They all turned to the last guy in the group who is staring at them like they have lost their minds. "I can't believe you all went to such expense for this golf game. I slapped my wife on the butt and said "Well babe, Merry Christmas ! It's a great morning - intercourse or golfcourse - " "She said, 'Don't forget your sweater' "

One of two, really. There is another site I've been with for a number of years. It is extremely well moderated and there are mainly decent members who don't feel they need to tell others to **** themselves. Whatever that means.:-2:-3

Spewing profanities in that way has become typical of the semi-literate 'grunt-speak' associated with many tawdry 'chat-sites' out there.

I did say to myself that I wouldn't be drawn in to watching the World Cup rugby that is now in full swing in the UK. I obviously didn't listen to myself, did I ? The thing is, though, that it is quite interesting and also quite exciting to watch. It was the same with Wimbledon - I told myself to not start watching till the second week, but did I listen ? These things interrupt other stuff that is supposed to be done, and you never get that time back do you? Oh well, Wimbledon is only once a year and the World Cup rugby is every 4 years I believe, so bog rats to 'em all - I shall keep watching the progress. England have quite a task, having lost to Wales on Saturday, as they will be playing Australia next Saturday and if they want to progress in the World Cup they will have to beat Australia. That is going to be difficult, but I will have fingers, toes and eyes crossed ! :-3

I'm not bothered whether England, Wales or Scotland win the World cup, as I have approximately equal 'blood'from all 3!

Sure takes the worry out of it...:wah:

Whilst we're talking Rugby, Wales played well! They took advantage of nearly all the opportunities England presented them with. A close and interesting game!

I have to say Gill,, I thought you were pretty rude and offensive yourself, albeit without using profanity. Which is mainly what got people uptight. Although you say "stuff their site" You are still using it most every day?

You were warned, and knew that site allowed the use of swear words, and had parts of the site that is classed as NSFW, but you only get admitted there if you ask. There are quite a few younger people there who do seem to use profanity a lot,, it just goes over my head now. its only swearing, it dont burn my eyes out to see it lol. There are also quite a lot of threads there that have no use of profanity at all, and some good and interesting/fun subjects. But everyone is different and everyone wants their own type of enjoyment from the internet and from forums. So I would say take Bruvs advice, the internet is a big place and there is a place for all types of people.

How about we let people be themselves even if it is not to our taste.

Just giving another perspective :)

Actually, if I remember rightly, I don't think that what I said was rude. Unless, of course, drawing attention to the frequency of swearing and mentioning that I was surprised that Admin should be one of the main participants. The string of Fs in answer to my post was a tad OTT !!! I was slightly taken aback but I did take that as a bit of a 'get you at playtime' comment and I must say I did laugh at the juvenile reaction from Slack (Admin) ! Oh well, as you say, we can't all be the same, but there's no way that I could ever accept profanities in general conversation, except under extreme instances. I just find them unnecessary and lacking in respect for anybody who cares to read what has been written. If that makes me a prude, then so be it ! :p

Thank you for popping in here to have a word with me, Kaz, I had forgotten that you could always read the threads here whenever you wanted ! But it is a 'free world' :sneaky: :wah: :p so we're told !

Actually, I'm glad that you are still a member here. It does mean that you can still post stuff if you want to, and I can still be in touch with a friend ! :)

well I am an admin of that site so when i see someone slagging it off i am bound to " ave a word" int i;)

The bits i was referring to that I personally thought was rude was when you said people who swore don't have proper command of language and lacked brain power, and My how standards have dropped in America,, and when slack informed you she is a published author, you said,, I wonder just what sort of publication that could be! Its one thing to say that you personally do not like swearing in forums and find it unnecessary,, that's a perfectly reasonable thing to say, but to backhandedly insult everyone who does swear will naturally bring a reaction. your tone came across as insulting and rude,, it may not have been what you intended, but that is how it came across. That's just my opinion of course.

Perhaps that says it all about the site's standards ? I wonder if I would have used the company's PC for my own pleasure, if they were around when I was working. I expect so, knowing me! :yh_rotfl

I get confused by all the abbreviations. What is TP ? Is that toilet paper ? I'm afraid it annoys me a little bit when people are so lazy they can't be bothered to type the full word. For pity's sake how long does it take to type the full word ? I hope I never see the day when everybody uses textspeak in their posts instead of proper English words. :-5

I'm sure I don't know what you mean, Smaug. What is POLO ? I remember being told may years ago that OMO (this is the make of a washing soap powder which I don't think is made any more), means On My Own. A lone woman would put a packet of OMO in her window to indicate that she was 'up for it' ! This seemed to be common place in army barracks, if hubby was away abroad somewhere. :wah: :lips:

I'm watching England beating Lithuania in the Euro 2016 qualifiers. For England, it is purely academic as they have won all the matches they have played in this contest and are already through to the finals. It does give manager Hodgson a chance to try some new young blood in an international though, and it is quite interesting to see a few new names playing quite well and showing promise for future inclusion in the England football team.

I remember when we were on a camping holiday in North Norfolk, many years ago. My husband Chris and my son Andy, who was about 6 years old then, and our gorgeous mut 'Freddy' were camping on this large flat site at Wells-next-the-Sea. We'd picked a spot, for our 'three man' frame tent, which was slightly raised on a bit of a hump in the ground.

A couple of nights into our holiday a tremendous storm developed and approached relentlessly towards the camp site. Andy had been asleep in the inner tent for a couple of hours when 'all hell' was let loose all around us. Fortunately, Chris had 'storm guyed' our frame tent that afternoon, so we were confident that it would withstand mostly anything that nature could throw at us.

The lightning was most dramatic and very constant, and was coloured a strange pink ! We stood in the entrance to our tent and under the shelter of the integral canopy, to watch the firework display going on all around us - the most amazing sight ! We thought that okay, we could be struck by the lightning, but what alternative had we got ? The frame tent had an aluminium frame to the canvas so was fairly vulnerable to any rampant electricity that was going around, but as I say, what else could we do ? The thunder was incessant and terribly loud, we felt we were in the middle of a war zone !

I kept having a peep at my son, to reassure him if he woke with all the noise, but he was sound asleep ! Other people had come to their tent entrances to watch this amazing and very spectacular storm as it raged constantly, throwing down a deluge of rain and causing very quick puddling all around us.

Because we had had the foresight to pitch on a slightly raised piece of ground, when the puddles formed quickly into streams, the water by-passed our tent. However, others were not so fortunate, and they were desparately rescuing clothes and sleeping bags and throwing them into their cars as the streams poured through their tents !

As the storm passed, having lasted about an hour, Andy decided to wake up ! He was a bit bemused by all the activities on the site, and more than a little amazed at the sudden development of a mini lake district, with our tent on an island !

The next morning, the site had half emptied of tents, but we stayed on for the duration of our holiday and enjoyed marvellous sunny weather ! The moral is, if you are camping under canvas, pitch your tent on a rise in the ground, cos you never know when you may be very glad you did ! :yh_wink :sneaky:

Thanks, Lars, we used to do a lot of camping when we were younger. My hubby was in the sea scouts and so he was experienced at all the where's and why's of pitching tents and making camping as enjoyable as possible, as well as boat work.

I learned how to scull a boat using one oar over the stern - making good progress as well ! You have a rowlock attached to the stern transom into which you put the oar and a figure-of-eight motion is used, and you can progress quite satisfactorily and get quite good speeds up ! One has to be careful with balance otherwise one could fly overboard if the oar snagged or slipped in the rowlock! :wah:

I also learned how to sail ! I was quite a dab hand at rowing a quite large 6-man rowing boat (ex admiralty ) and I taught the sea scouts (that my hubby started up where we lived in the countryside near a canal), semaphore signalling. That actually was quite a challenge to me as I knew nothing about semaphore (flag signalling). I had to learn everything from scratch and try to keep one step ahead of the boys ! For a while they weren't keen on doing this semaphore thing and I had a bit of a struggle to motivate them, then I hit on an idea !

"Just think what rude and iffy messages you could send to a pal across the other side of the classroom ! You could use your fingers as flags and none of the other kids who weren't sea scouts would be able to read the message - you could even send the odd swear word or an insult about the teacher, nobody would understand !" Well that fired their imagination as there were several of the boys in the same class. Eyes brightened and big grins appeared !

That really sorted me out !!!! I really had to buckle down and learn the semaphore alphabet in a matter of a few days - with enough speed sending messages to keep up with the boys !!! They were all perfect semaphore signallers within a week !!! It was hard work for me but it was a means to an end. A couple of the lads were far better than the rest, so they were the team that we put forward as the signalling team in the area annual Sea Scout Trophy which occurred only 2 months after my hubby had formed the local sea scout troop. We were top troop in the signalling and we came second overall in the competition, which involved about 7 different sea scout troops from the county. We would have come first and got the trophy had the Chief Petty Officer testing the signalling hadn't marked our boys down to 98 % - apparently he never ever gave 100% !!!! So we lost the trophy by 2 points !

The boys were really proud of themselves, and rightly so. Our very new troop was the talk of the county for months, and was held up as an example for the next year's Sea Scout Trophy competition !

Yes, my days associated with the sea scouts and camping and boating stood me in good stead for decades !!!!

I like the idea of sailing, but in practice I find that the dinghy heeling right over puts the Fear Of God in me!! A thing 'passing strange', as I'll happily scrape my elbows on the track whilst tearing around on a motorbike, or complacently marvel at the view whilst piloting a light aircraft!

I'm watching X Factor at the moment and they have got to whittling down the over 25's which happen to be Simon Cowell's group of singers. There are 6 'seats' for 6 winners in tonight's group, however there are about 12 people to fight over those seats. It is such a cruel section because if Simon decides to choose, say, number 7 then he has to choose one of the 6 who have already got through, to go. Very cruel. Well 6 have now been decided. It is such a shame because some of the ones who were kicked off the chairs were really good singers, even though they sang too many oublies for my liking !

Better start calling it 'Musical Chairs'...................it has more in common with that than a talent show.

Or in some cases; not-so-musical chairs! X Factor is on too long for my taste.

What concerns me is when these type of shows involve the public in 'phone voting, how does anybody watching the show on the TV, know that these votes are genuine or whether it is a 'fix' ? How can the quantity of phone votes possibly be proved ?

I rant all the time it's on in my house, I find it insulting to the viewer and degrading to the contestants.

They are now eavesdropping on the seated contestants comments, and dropping in over heard asides from the judges, just to wind us all up.

Whittling them down at this stage used to be done by the judges..............I believe, but now they spin it out further by using the musical chair option in public, reminding me of public stocks so the people involved can be humiliated for us all to see, just like the care in the community contestants in the early rounds.

X Factor is on.......for my taste.

It is the one and only concession that I have to sit through against my better judgement

For myself, I would add 'DeadEnders' and 'CoroNasty Street' to this list!

Haven't watched Corrie for years and years, but my wife is addicted to Tenders, it does have some very good story lines at times, but because most of the cast is embedded there are no surprises because you know they will be back next week.
