Body World and sex education

Post by jimsaysletitgo »

I attended the "Body World" exhibit in Clevland last month with my twelve year old grandson and saw it as an excellant opporunity to broach the subject of the responsibility a boy/man has in fathering a child. Seeing fetus from early conception to full term showed the development of life in its progression. Seeing a pregnant woman opened up and seeing the fetus in the birth canal was very powerful.

I believe that witnessing visually how life begins and evolves can help destroy any "illusions" about pregnancy. I am against abortion but I am adamantly pro-choice. By sharing my awe of pregnancy with my grandson I hoped to instill in him the same values that I have. That value is based on complete and informed sex education and instilling in him the responsability of his actions. I am not expecting him to "wait" until marriage for his first sexual encounter. What I do expect is for him to be aware of life and what can happen and use appropriate contraception until he is ready to produce a child. I want him safe from unwanted pregnancies and disease. That way he never has to be culpable in making a "choice " over abortion or fatherhood.

Darn! I was so hoping you were a militant pro-abortion pinko commie whatever. :D

I, too, believe in choice. I am adamant that the government stay out of our lives as much as possible and never legislate what should be. That includes seatbelts, helmets, church, morality, abortion, marriage, and others I'll think of later.

The stickiest of these is abortion. Our current laws in the US make citizenship active upon birth. The fact that life begins at conception is not seriously debatable. The question then becomes citizen vs non-citizen.

I'll be glad when that researcher comes up with a way to extract a fetus from one womb and put it into another. That'll open up whole new possibilities.

I think that you made an excalent decision! Choice is the only thing that makes us free. I think that you made a very good step in the right direction in teaching your values to your grandson!

I saw that exhibit when it came to Cleveland in August and I was amazed. It's one thing to make opinions based on other people's opinions and it's another to develop an opinion when you can see the science right in front of your face. I was really pleased at how tastefully they did the fetus exhibit. If anyone else has an opportunity to see it when it comes to their city they should go. It's well worth the high admission price.
