Very true. It is really good for us. I'm terrible at drinking enough water - I reach for coffee or tea without thinking.
I wonder about the sparkling waters or flavored waters for sale. Does it help if you drink those, or is plain water better?

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Too much water can kill you - however, you'd probably have to drink 25+ pints to achieve that effect (no, you would not explode!).
Tea and coffee both contain (at a guess) about 99% water.
Tap water (in the UK) is as good as bottled water.

So good coca cola bottled it and tried to sell it, must surely be high up on the list of the marketing faux pas of recent times.

I cannot bring myself to drink water. I've tried and just can't do it. Even tried adding a little lime juice and a little lemon juice and still can't drink it.
I know I should.

Peg, I cannot believe you? Well that says you have never needed weight watchers? I didn't drink enough water in my earlier years, but it is awareness now that we should?
Hey not every-one can stand it? But we really need it?

Somehow or other, they managed to "purify" the tap water and add bromates in a quantity to exceed the legally permitted level. Um.

Bill, are you drinking enough water? I recently had my water tested, we had some bacteria in it...Everyone should sanitize their wells every year or so? We drink water here non-stop. We have lived to see how "not drinking water" has hurt people? Merry Xmas...

I don't know. I usu. have a glass in the morning, and a mug of tea - then more tea, or coffee, during the day, probably about 6 mugs, then some beer or cider during the evening... then there's the water in any fruit or juice I might have... maybe about 1 imperial gallon per day (4.51 litres approx)?

I don't see how you can do that.... if there are bacteria in the water, they're getting in somehow.... is foreign matter getting into your well? As you are/were a farm, could runoff be affecting the water? How near to the well are drains, slurry pits or whatever? What is the surface geology to the depth affecting your well?
Is the well covered with a light-proof cover? I've never known anyone "sanitize" their wells - does this mean tipping something down them?

Paula,
What do you think of Dr. Batmanghelidj and his http://www.watercure2.org/ website? Interesting read - and a lot of testimonials.

"You cannot be serious" (TM). If you were in the desert, and had only tea to drink, would you die of dehydration? I don't think so!

Since we are both sitting at computers right now, I have a hunch that neither of us is stranded on a desert island, so it's a pretty safe bet that all you have too do is get up, go to the sink, turn on the tap, and voila. Extreme cicumstances aside, I have to support the argument for 'plain is best'.Most of this so called Still water you get in shopping malls comes from the Tap. Its just another fadd.

Yes, but you said "Coffee and tea, though they both contain water, actually dehydrate you, as the caffeine (I assume the tea is normal tea, not herbal caffeinne-free) acts as a diurectic and so anything you intake is not of much benefit. " - coffee and tea are quite clearly OK if you want to be "well hydrated", although of course they do contain other substances apart from H2O. However, the other substances, especially in tea, are beneficial to health. Nothing wrong in drinking water, though, despite what W. C. Fields is reputed to have said about it.
