Has My Yahoo Been Hijacked?

Post by High Threshold »

I went onto the computer this morning and all was well. However, this afternoon I found that I could not sign onto my Yahoo account. I tried everything imaginable but no joy. I finally managed to get on by way of the “History” function. I figured it might be a good idea (while I'm signed in) to change my password just in case. But then I'd have to sign out first and I'm not sure that I want to do that. If someone hacks his way in and it looks like I'm posting to FG a bit “more crazy than usual” then you know it's not me. “How crazy” do you ask ….. ? Hmmmmm. I'll get back to you on that one.

Anyway, is there a clever way to detect if my account has been infiltrated?

If you changed your password, you should be fine.

Of course the only way to be sure is to log back in with your new password.

I haven't changed my password. I couldn't log in with my password. I'm logged in with "remember me" through the "history" function. If I log out (which is what the password change requires before submitting a new password) then I might not get back in if the password has already been changed by a hijacker. Anyway, I haven't been able to use my password all afternoon so you can see that I'm rather timid about logging out properly. Maybe I should try to log in with my wife's computer first?

So, it is not your account that is the problem.

Perhaps time to clean out your browser cache, and cookies.

The simple answer is that if it's Yahoo, Hotmail or GMail, then yes, it probably HAS been hacked.

Browser? You mean that thing that when you click on it a lot of other things start jumping and changing shapes, my wife rushes in to see if I'm looking at porn again and the doorbell rings? Mozilla Firefox.
