CA Middle School Gives Boy Detention for Sharing Lunch With Hungry Friend (Video) | Americans Against the Tea Party

How mean spirited of the school.

Slightly off topic, Oscar, but it gives me the opportunity to mention something I saw on a discussion programme this morning...it concerns a similar dilemma of performing a generous deed but being penalised for it.

One of the speakers this morning said that aid workers should not go into war torn countries because, if captured, they become pawns in the conflict.

I can understand what he's saying but, at the same time, I'm wondering how aid could be delivered.

Any ideas?

Yes, I've seen some debates on this that he was naive and I have to agree. Yet, I think that's what Irk's me the most, In that he went out of the kindness of his heart and Is being used as a pawn. Unfortunately, terrorists don't give two hoots about their kind Intentions. To them It's a weapon.

I think the only way any aid can be distributed In civil war zones Is by air lift and drops as they did with the Kurds stranded on that mountain.

I certainly believe that we should not be allowing any civilians out to these area's. Air drops on targeted area's where the help Is needed most Is the only way I can see of doing this without hostages being taken.

Yes, I was referring to this. It was discussed this morning on a debate programme.

I agree with you about the air lifts/drops...it has become far too dangerous now for civilians, which is a shame because these aid workers are incredibly compassionate people.

I hope that the pleas from his family and leading Muslims are successful, though will IS listen? It would show compassion on their part if they did.

First of all, the school has a valid point of possible liability should the food given causes harm.

Maybe rather than suspending the kid for violating the rules maybe just a good talking to. Something like a good talking to would have worked before ZERO TOLERANCE. Considering his mother just din't get it maybe just as well to spend an hour after school doing homework.

Next, I was really curious about why it was the which brought this news to us.

Not like Americans Against the Tea Party has an ax to grind.

Pretty wild bunch if you ask me.

“The West holds whole populations of innocent men, women and children hostage merely for being citizens of oil-rich nations. Worse than that, “The West actually invades these nations with bombs, cannons, tanks, etc. murdering millions of the innocent. You want to begrudge the victims a few meagre lives of Westerners who actually “might NOT" be equally innocent?

Anyway, the answer to your question is direct dialog with the opposing forces, their wishes and/or demands taken serioulsy, and NEGOCIATE with them. Or ........ get your finger and nose out of their lives.

This doesn't appear to have much to do with the western hostages. This is more about sunni and shea muslims killing each other.

Well, it were "the West" what upset the balance between them - encouraged retribution one against the other - destroyed any structure they may have had - left the indigenous population with a power vacuum – sowed the seeds of capitalist "grab the money/resources & run" philosophy - and generally F'd up the region. When I was a kid, the word Moslem was the word used. Then appeared the Black Muslims, then all Moslems were called Muslim & I don't know why. I think Moslem is a pretty word, while Muslim reminds me of the cloth muslin.

I think they have a 5 year plan for world domination and have a general demand for money in exchange for peoples lives.

Several influential high profile Imams in recent days have been calling for the release of the Manchester relief worker with little or no response. All I can see is an onslaught.

If you are suggesting this is a result of The US invasion of Iraq along side its puppet allies then you will get little argument from me. I just think this is a completely different animal with little chance of taming, if Al Queda think they are too extreme.

It Is a whole new animal In that Sunni and Shea Muslims have been killing each other long before we Invaded Iraq. I saw a report somewhere from Al Qu'eda that stated they had expelled many of these rebel fighters and wanted no part of them claiming they were too blood thirsty ie beheading children and babies.

ISIS In the main Is about Sunni vs Shea... quite how we deal with that I honestly don't know... other than stay the hell out of It and drop aid where most needed.

The problem is extremists, regardless of their cause, are Binary, by nature. It either is or it isn't. There can be no middle ground, thus making any kind of negotiation a non-starter.
