The BRICS group of Nations led by RUSSIA has openly announced the abandonment of the US $ in trade between themselves as well as the creation of settlement mechanisms that completely bypass the $. This is the BIGGEST nail in the coffin of the US $ as World Reserve Currency. Expect Inflation in the US to start gathering speed in the second half of the year, and the possible launching of a major war. This has the potential to push the US to 2nd world status (like Poland) and eventual 3rd world.

A GIANT step in the right direction, pampered no doubt by Snowden's expertise and invaluable insight. Saddam gave it a go but got invaded and subsequently executed for his efforts.

Crush the dollar and the U.S. will have to nurture and cultivate its "friends" rather than make demands upon them out of arrogance.

Totally off topic, I know, but a technical point I'm curious about. I've noticed that, as with this post, a certain number of characters are replaced with a white '?' within a black diamond (U+FFFD Unicode, according to Charmap). I was just wondering why. It would make a bit more sense if it were consistent with everybody's posts, as that could simply be put down to the individual PC not recognising certain fonts.

In the case of this post it seems to happen with the hyphen between "$Dollars$ & "Brics", but not so in the pasted link.

the code set used by different language keyboards creates "unknown characters" when translated to other code sets.

Don't be silly it wasn't entirely an american invention in the first place and do you really think the rest of the world would sit about wringing their hands? If the US economy goes down the toilet alternatives will develop. Actuakkly it's already on it's way down thanks to it's moving away from a true capitalist economy.

Most internet traffic does not traverse satellites. The latencies would be way too high.

Even with the newer Satellite technology, Latencies are above 500ms. That is a life-time in data communications.

Not that I know anything at all about satellites (I most certainly do not) but I'm under the impression that it's a mere matter of tweeking the ones that are already up there. Everyone and his dog has one or two these days. Anyway, if the Yanks were to go skint they could probably sell off their surplus.
