I'll take my fun with a barf bag

Actually, I have no intention on riding on Coney Island's newest rollercoaster when it opens in May. Since ground was only broken yesterday, that seems awfully fast for anything to be built.

"The three-car coaster will hold 27 people as it zooms along 2,233 feet of track at 55 miles per hour. It’ll reach its peak height at 115 feet before plummeting nearly straight to the ground and into a 100-foot vertical loop, then an 80-foot zero-g roll followed by a heartline dive and corkscrew. The whole shebang lasts two-minutes."

For an imaginary ride, check out the video. Except for watching from the solid ground this is as close as I will ever get (& I still got dizzy)!:

There was a time in my life I would go to great length to ride such a machine. Wish I could now and not come off way more dizzy than I am now.

You guys are brave even to consider it! Way out of my league! There was an old Thunderbolt that operated right next to the one still standing, the Cyclone. It was abandoned & torn down. This new one appears to be moved up to the old Parachute Jump, which hasn't been in operation for decades & just stands as a landmark.

The New York City Gov't keeps pushing for Casinos in Coney Island, but the nearby folks (including me) have so far kept them out.

I love Roller Coasters.

On our trip to Maine next summer, I have planned a two-day stop in Sandusky, where we will meet up with my niece and here four kids, and take in a couple of the big coasters there.

I have been known to borrow a grandkid or two to make a trip to ride a new coaster.

The only amusement rides that ever make me queasy are those new-fangled simulator rides, like the "Back to the Future" or the like.

You should try the one on top of the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas.

"The new ride, which borrows the name of the original Thunderbolt coaster that was built in 1920, decommissioned in 1982, and torn down in 2000, will cost $10 million, the single largest private investment in Coney Island in decades."

Wow! That's a lot of money for thrills! I hope the private investor will spend some of their money for research or other really important things!

I have ridden many impressive roller coaster...but I cheat :lips: I keep my eyes closed!:yh_rotfl

I've always felt scared on scary rides, which for me even included mild ones like 'Tilt-A-Whirl'. One summer, in the seventies, I was not afraid of any ride & went on All of them. Never did again. Have no idea why.

Lady J, I would be more scared with my eyes closed. I think I'd feel my stomach more.

I have never liked Ferris Wheels (called Big Wheels in UK), or Roller Coasters. I did try them when I was in my teens, but I just didn't like the feeling of leaving my stomach at the top of the ride ! Being so high with little apparent protection to prevent a person falling to the ground, frightened me to death !

Now my son, on the other hand, would love this Roller Coaster - I don't know where he gets it from, probably his Dad ! :wah:

:yh_sick

None of that for me.. went on one once, never again. I wasn't sick but I just hated it.

When I was about 14 and my dad went back to England for work (and yes we were short on money), the school pushed and pushed to make me go on a schooltrip to a rollercoaster park. Mum had to pay 50 euro's, so I could sit on a bench all day.

I got out of going in the end, and saved my mum 50 euro's! :wah:

Gill, there is a Ferris Wheel nearby the rollercoaster called 'Wonder Wheel'. On the outer rim, the cars don't swing but on the inner wheel they not only swing but move up & down, to & fro:

My son took me on it this past summer, but I would only ride on the outer rim. Scary enough for the likes of me!

Chloe that was a lot of money you saved your mum! If you & me ever went to an amusement park, we could sit on the bench together, watch & be glad we're sitting on the bench!

The more hair-raising anything is, the more Andy likes it ! Over a period of time he must have tried every white knuckle ride that exists !!!! :wah:
