Guess my dad isn't aloud to eat that anniversary cake now...

But seriously, my mum phoned me at work today, my dad was taken into hospital..

I'm not sure what the correct english term for it is, he hasn't had a heart attack yet but he has a "hartinfarct" (heart infarction?). One of the smaller veins/arteries is blocked.

He is being kept in overnight, maybe longer.. Lots of testing going on.

I'll be seeing him later tonight. My mum is over there now.. but seen as he can't have more than two visitors at once, i'll be going over tonight.

Funny though.. I have been very calm, even when I left work immediately after hearing the news, I have been very calm all afternoon sitting with my mum, waiting for her to be able to go over to hospital and see him.

But now, I think the news is slowly sinking in...

We did the british thing, and had a cup of tea.. Very british to sit around drinking a cup of tea during a "crisis'.

Thanks Oscar & Snooz.

Snooz, my dad is 56. He'll be 57 in July.

My parents were at a Queen tribute Concert on saturday night aswell.. He was feeling 'off' for quite a while, but thought it was his COPD playing up. Being a stubborn man, he didn't want to see the GP. He even said being at the concert made him feel better, he said the beat of the music felt nice.

My mum said this morning she was going to phone the GP, if he liked it or not! The GP phoned an ambulance right away.

I got back from hospital 2 hours ago.. he looks like a little old man now, you know in the silly gown etc. His sense of humour hasn't been affected though! :wah:

He's the same age as Oscar and me... WAY too young to have health issues. Hope he feels better soon.

Chloe...I'm sorry to hear this but at least it was caught before it could have been tragic. The doctors will probably recommend some life style changes and he will live many more happy, healthy years.

My best goes out to you and your family.

Sending some healing vibes your way! :yh_pray

Thanks everybody.

we should find out more today.

just trying to keep my eyes open at the moment, seems like I hardly slept last night.. pff..

the stent was a bit of a problem, they couldn't get it in and they mucked up his arm. it's swollen like 2-3 times the size!!

anyway, we should find out more today and find out the amount of damage done. BP and heart rate were still way too high yesterday evening so..

Best wishes to your Dad's recovery, Chloe! There's so much they can do for people with blocked arteries these days and hopefully by next week this time, he'll be back home and eating stale anniversary cake.

just a quick update:

Testing has been moved forward till tomorrow morning, because of episodes of high bp and heart rate during last night

He seems okay, very bored though. he said he feels better since they did the stent thingy yesteday.

He's on a portable (wireless?) heart/bp monitor, he apparently went walk about yesterday evening, up to the restaurant about 10/15 minute walk from his ward!!

The nurse was soooo cross with him! Silly man!

well.. good news.

Dad is back home! He was aloud home as long as he promised to take it easy, till the next check up in 4 weeks time..

So he just said: ooh i'll take the dogs for a nice long walk down the park then!

We all said: NO! you are not aloud yet!

I think we'll have to tie him to the chair..
