Let It Be.
I’ve been reading the current crop of threads/posts about religion with a sort of WTF attitude. It’s like a money back guarantee that no two members of FG are ever gonna agree when it comes to god or Jesus or the bible.
I and other atheists on FG have never made any secret of the fact that we consider the bible to be a work of fiction and the idea of an all seeing omnipresent “god” ludicrous in the extreme.
Despite this I have tried to treat the “believers” among us with respect. I mean I’m cool about the theory that “whatever floats your boat.”
However, there are some “religious” threads that have been going on for yonks. Granted they have been kept on the front page by the efforts of their authors. So instead of posting a riposte, which suits the religious zealots down to the ground, shouldn’t those with differing opinions not rather ignore these silly people?
I know that it often irks us non-believers when we read the trash posted about religion and we want to rush in to make our opinion known. But one thing I have learned about the “bible way believers” is that they are seldom converted.
So why not let only those who are like minded contribute to these threads?

I agree with you Jj, but would also suggest restriction on the number of religious threads that are permitted to be added to Forum Garden. I do, however, disagree with you over what you say that the Bible is a 'work of fiction'. I believe it is a history book. The Old Testament should be read with an open mind, as the contributions to this section are 'word of mouth' and we all know how inaccuracies can easily develop when one person passes a 'story' onto another ! The New Testament, however, is written down at the time of an occurrence and therefore probably a great deal more accurate in it's various 'books'.

I hear you Gilly but can't agree with this statement:
"The New Testament, however, is written down at the time of an occurrence and therefore probably a great deal more accurate in it's various 'books'."
Most biblical scholars agree that the so called new testament was written at least one and even perhaps two centuries after the event.

It's not just the non-believers that get irked by some of the antics. Some of the more interesting posts are when the believers all get into a row about which "truth" is "THE Truth"
Besides, Just relax, and all that stuff will settle down. If you make a ruckus over them, they'll know they got your attention and will post more stuff.

That was a song from years ago...
Anyway, onwards and upwards, good attempt JJ and for once I agree with you. The Bible has been not only been re-written many times but also re-interpreted to suit whoever happened to be in charge at the time. What it can be seen as is a fine piece of literature, but not as the 'word of God'.

Yeah ... and by the Beatles no less. However even song titles by the Fab Four are not protected by copy write unless they include a newly created word or phrase such as "Californication " or the like.

oi mush speak for yourself. I wouldn't consider the bible to be entirely a work of fiction, leaving aside all the bits about god a lot of what happens to the jews can be verified from other sources. On one level it is a fascinating historical document.
Atheist just means you don't believe in god I trust you are not one of those who have constructed a whole belief system for those who are "true" atheists.

1) I apologise ... I should rather have said: "I and many other atheists ... " etc etc.
I do not speak for any other person here.
2) Then in MHO what happened to the Jewish people should rather have been written in a history book because to many Christians the bible is the word of god.
3) I do not believe in god and neither I do not believe in "a whole belief system for those who are true atheists."
One is either an atheist or not an atheist.

Will Atheist threads also be censored in this same manner?
Will the Atheist habits here that Theist don't like also be eliminated or given measured guidelines?
Or are these things that just Theist must endure?

Citizen Mickiel;
"Censorship is the suppression of speech or other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by a government, media outlet or other controlling body."
I do not believe that I have suggested anything like this ...
I am a writer and I spit upon censorship in any guise, shape or form.

Well, I certainly agree with this. I thought this may be another witch hunt in disguise ; although I myself am against much of religion, I hold enough wisdom to see that not all of it is bad or crazy and has done much good for humanity.

Annie ... Annie ... Annie! Whilst it is everyone's right to express themselves as they want to, such a display of negative energy is not good for you ... "don't like, dislike, can't stand him ..." No, no, no my dear. Words like that are not good for your soul.
Whereas this :-4:-4:-4 is positive energy that will send your spirit soaring!!!

I really don't wish to analyze it; then, I would have to think about you. It's a gut feeling based on what I've already said. I must make it clear it is not God or Religion---those topics are inoffensive to me, & sometimes very interesting to me.

Well, I'm not dead yet; I have feelings. Since I rarely feel this way about a person, I consider it minor. & unless I'm here I don't think about it at all.
I love you too, JJ.

Maybe you can convince her in a positive way, to explain in a positive way, why she can't stand me. Have her explain her reasons; in a positive explination of her soreness.
I hold absolutely no content or negative feelings for her at all;
I am free of such . And I would see her free; if I could.

Your soreness does not fit; unless its just a classic Atheist dislike Theist thing.
There are reasons that I have gotten under your skin; I sense very strong reasons;
and just for your information; your not the first one I have affected like this.
I don't allow anyone to get under my skin; that is a very protected area; only for God and me.

You need to take the advice of the OP and let it be.
But for your information; a time will come when I will be banned; you will eventually get your way; its simply my destiny.

Perfect example. I've already said the opposite. You talk, in a monologue like Bryn said, but you have no interest in what anyone else is feeling, thinking, saying. You're only interested in You. Even God takes second place to you. You're a bore & a boor.

accepted - you do get fundamentalist atheists that are every bit as annoying as religious ones
2) Then in MHO what happened to the Jewish people should rather have been written in a history book because to many Christians the bible is the word of god.
It's also a historical document/book if you look at it objectively that some choose to believe it is the word of god does not detract from that. You do yourself a disservice to dismiss it out of hand as nonsense. Many of the historical events can be cross referenced the story of moses for instance is a classic in how to turn a wandering tribe in to a fearsome military machine by creating a religious dictatorship. The queen of sheba was probably a black african which might explain some of the hostility.

Well, I certainly agree with this. I thought this may be another witch hunt in disguise ; although I myself am against much of religion, I hold enough wisdom to see that not all of it is bad or crazy and has done much good for humanity.
ah witch hunts, just another of the crimes that can be laid at the door of religious extremists.

You need to take the advice of the OP and let it be.
But for your information; a time will come when I will be banned; you will eventually get your way; its simply my destiny.
Be patient.
are not clairvoyants not agents of the devil?
Joking aside no one wants you banned. The frustration is that you will not enter in to discussion but throw the dolly out the pram and run away every time your beliefs are challenged. It would be good if you would defend your beliefs is it perhaps that you know you cannot do so?

oi mush speak for yourself.
No, the bible Is not a work of fiction nor the words of god... It Is a historical account of life of those times.
These days more and more scientific evidence Is showing that many of the events In the bible did Indeed take place.
As examples, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah Is now believed to be a meteor shower similar to the one that demolished a village In Russia last year.
The Great Flood was the rising of sea levels as they do every few thousand years.
The parting of the waves... they now know there was a tsunami In biblical times In that area... the parting of the waves would be the sea receding as It does before the big wave strikes.
Ariel photograph show a large boat under Mount Ararat.
They now even believe they found tombs.

I will not " Contune" discussions where the person resorts to name calling, or aittitudes and reasonings which completely loose me or I cannot understand them.
You have absolutely ZERO examples of me never ENTERING into discussions; if so, simply produce them.

I have taken the resort of not answering, to certain posters, or postings. There is no obligation to answer.

I think that is what frustrates some.
To be frank, I suspect the problem is you are not presenting the usual Judeo/Christrian perspective some are comfortable attacking.

I think many Atheist here think I am obligated to answer anyone they support that seems to disagree with anything I say. And when I don't, it obviously frustrates them, since they can't do anything with me.
And I agree with you, I am not what they are used to attacking; they really can't figure it out. I am not religious, I do not condemn them, I am not in agreement with Christians, and I am not a Christian;
now they just do not know how to deal with me;
and I am not against that; I am used to it.

You read absolutely everything I write; and you know it. Conversely, yesterday I just took you off of ignore, which I had you on for months.
Because I wanted to puff up your thread, and this one too; because I am going to use the elevated numbers and views later; to prove a dramitic point.

Let it be; that's a joke. You try to dominate a website and then conversely ask to let it be. You think yourselves untouchable and have a green light; but there are ways that you cannot stop or manipulate; powers beyond your control;
welcome to that. There will be no let it be, As long as you don't let it be.

You are a very perceptive young man. :-6
Times like this I think back to when I was around 8 years old.
I was crying because a girl at school was being nasty to me.
My Father said ' So she doesn't like you ? Why cry about that when others like you ?
Something I carried Into adulthood. If somebody doesn't like me, sure as hell, I'm not wasting one Iota of my day thinking about them.

The OP thinks that if religious threads last for a long time, he sees something odd in that; not knowing or ignoring that endurance is a sign of interest in humanity. Its a sign of intrest in relationships; endurance. Its a sign of committment. Its a sign of values; endrance.
Its a sign of reality; so when they seek to limit a thread, its a sign of trying to limit reality; relationship and committment. And then try to detour or limit what they cannot extinguish.
Its SO transparent. And its a form of them crying.

Every thread you have ever posted. when challenged we get the stock response accusing people of name calling, or attitudes and reasoning which completely loose me or I cannot understand them.
If you don't understand something ask for clarification. Religious people are not used to philosophy or logic and thinking things through for themselves you can seek help. Someone disagreeing with you is not a personal attack stop running away. . If it were anyone would think Oscar and I hate each others guts, we don;t we just disagree a lot.

Interesting use of words "usual". Arguing about the ins and outs of different judeo/christian perspectives is a bit pointless if you are a non believer in the first place. effectively it's like discussing the pros and cons of two fairy tales, fascinating if you believe them to be real otherwise not so much..

For someone who is not religious you post a lot of crap about it. Not being a follower of any religion I don't have a predetermined set of prejudices and I don't make any judgements about people I don't know.
Anyway I am now going back to completely ignoring you. Have a good life and may your imaginary friend go with you.
