Half the child population of Briton are in some kind of welfare care?

What? Is that figure credible?

BBC News - Parents 'should go abroad to avoid family courts'

BBC News - Family courts: New standards for expert witnesses

Fewer decisions about the care of children will be made on the advice of poorly qualified experts in the family courts under government plans.

Minimum standards will be introduced later this year to weed out incompetent psychologists and other experts, the justice department said.

The courts will also be told to use fewer experts to save time and money.

The system has so far escaped scrutiny due to the secrecy surrounding family courts, critics say.

Lib Dem MP John Hemming, who campaigns for family law reform, said he "welcomed" the move.

He described the current lack of oversight of experts who were often responsible for life-changing decisions as an "absolute scandal".

Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on Thursday, the Birmingham Yardley MP claimed some psychologists provided contradictory opinions depending on who was paying for their services or reached a verdict on whether someone was a fit parent without interviewing them.

"The idea that psychologists can come to conclusions about people and their merits as parents without even seeing them is an absurdity," he told MPs.

Top judge's war on secret courts: Family hearings must be exposed to 'glare of publicity' | Mail Online

One of Britain’s most senior judges vowed yesterday to expose family courts to ‘the glare of publicity’ after decades of obsessive secrecy.

In a landmark ruling, Sir James Munby said parents of children taken into care must no longer be gagged by the courts and the public should be told what social workers are up to.

Sir James, who is president of the Family Division of the High Court, said the removal of children from their families had become the most drastic matter judges dealt with now there was no death penalty. He said the rulings could affect mothers for ‘upwards of 60 or even 70 years’ and children for even longer.

There was a ‘pressing need’ for the workings of the family courts to be opened to public view and the arguments for scrutiny and public accountability were compelling.

Parents must be given the freedom to criticise judges, the courts and social workers, and the Press must be free to report what has happened without the interference of judges, Sir James added. The break-up of families by the state must no longer happen in secret, on the pretext of protecting the children involved.

A leading family lawyer has branded as ‘irresponsible and dangerous’ an MP's advice that parents suspected of child abuse should flee abroad rather than risk care proceedings in ‘unfair’ family courts.

Family lawyer criticises MP’s ‘dangerous’ advice | News | Law Society Gazette

According to your link:

In 2012, local authorities made a record 10,218 applications to take children away from parents.

Just as a comparison:

The most recent national figures from the AIHW indicate that in Australia, during 2011-12, there were 252,962 notifications of suspected child abuse and neglect made to state and territory authorities (a rate of 34.0 notifications per 1,000 Australian children), which is an increase of 6.6% from the 237,273 reports made in 2010-2011.

http://www.aifs.gov.au/cfca/pubs/factsheets/a142086/

According to the 2001 census there was just over 11 million children living In England... I suspect that figure Is much higher today,

10,218 applications out of 11 million children does not equate to the title of your thread by any stretch of the Imagination.

I don't understand why you would compare it to Australia. Adn the problem we have in Australia is lack of investigation not over indulgence of investigations.

This thread is about Briton!!!!! And the steps being taken by some to change the status quo.

You cannot make a comparison of local authorities actually making APPLICATIONS to take children away to NOTIFICATIONS of SUSPECTED abuse. At a guess our numbers of notifications of suspected abuse is way up there too!

How do you equate 10,218 cases of over 11 million children In Britainbeing half the child population of Britain In some kind of welfare care?

No... It's been and gone.

There Is no denying that there has been scandalous cases In this country where wrong decisions have been made. On some of those cases, decisions were made without even seeing the parents. There certainly needs to be more transparency but Britain, by comparison Is no worse than any other Western country,

Fuzzy If we have 11 million children, then do you have any evidence to show that 5.5 million of them are In some kind of welfare care as you question In your title?

68,110 children were in the care of local authorities on 31st March 2013, compared to 67,080 in 2012

It's actually quite a serious issue. Once a children's court has made a decision parents have no right of appeal and a culture grown up where any denial means you are being uncooperative. There are cases where the evidence has been proven to be flawed (poor medical evidence or so called experts that are anything but) and the accusations unjust but because the children have already been adopted the parents cannot get them back. If an accusation is made of child abuse parents find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of action taken by people against whom they have no defence and who will not listen.

You could always look up the most recent census. She was asking if that figure was credible why don't you read things before you answer.

Mind you you know how Australians always sound as though they are asking a question maybe they do it when writing as well.:D

Why is everyone giving Oscar a ration of sh!t about this, Fuzzy asked if the number was credible and Oscar told her no, with links to prove it. Is this another thread Oscar isn't allowed to participate in?

Well, first off, the OP makes some assertions that Oscar believes are not credible, then oscar makes some more assertions that are even less credible.

Where does it stop. Oscar thinks she's proven something, I don't see it and neither does GMC, none of her arguments really make sense.

Fuzzy actually tells Oscar in the thread she isn't going to answer her question. But still Oscar keeps going. This is actually when it needed to stop.

This isn't actually about the content of the thread any more though is it, it's about Oscar trying to constantly gain one up man ship over someone she dislikes. There was a thread yesterday where Fuzzy asked her to leave her alone. Shame Fuzzy did so really because a request like that will always ensure Oscar does it all the more.

Right... and your Moderator skills now Include the power of thought ?

You now know exactly what members are thinking when they participate In a thread and they're motives for doing so.?

No you don't Betty. You have absolutely no Idea what I think of Fuzzy nor anyone else.

Just because someone disagree's with you on a public forum on a public Internet, they don't like you ???

How childish !!!!

So gmc and myself who disagree In most threads don't like each other and that's why we disagree. ???? Oh please !!!!

It's posts like yours that actually cause discord Instead of just sticking to the topic discussed In the links.

I am a regular poster on this forum and I have contributed links to show why a thread about my country Is not credible.

And now Tyr pops In with Betty Boop ??? Don't tell me... Bryn's away.

I'll leave you here to yourselves.
