Is it wrong or right? I tell you as a Native Georgian this is NOT how I want to be portrayed. This mayor did a dignified thing for these victims. Its absolutley horrendous what these backwoods rednecks have done. And all these people can talk about on the radio airwaves is wether or not its appropriate for their home country's flag to be flown? WTF?

What do you guys think?

And let me add if I were Mr Johnson, I wouldnt have apologized for a %$#@ thing! He made the right decision and if you are such a cold hearted redneck, dont look at the flag for the measley 6 days it will fly at your courthouse!

I agree with the mayor's sentiment.

I trust they were documented aliens and not naturalized citizens, actually from Mexico and not just a Spanish-speaking country.

From what I understand from the article, they might not be citizens. And in my opinion, what does that have to do with the fact that 6 people were beaten to death and robbed? And what is wrong with a mayor wanting to honor their lives by flying their home country's flag? Im not picking a fight with you, Im just saying that if I were in London, Paris, or more comparable Hennebont (a small town in the Bretagne region of France) etc. And I was brutally murdered, I think it would be a nice thing if the town leaders flew a flag for one lousy day in honor of my life. I think these people who are complaining are completely missing the point of what it means to be human. Where is their compassion? Do they have a conscience?

It shouldn't matter if they were documented or not..................

But we have discussed this before.

The Mayor did a good thing.

Right..... on all 3 counts. :D If they came here and worked hard to get their American citizenship, I would look at it as a slap in the face. Likewise if they were from, say, Guatemala and just got called Mexican because of, well, we have several threads on that subject going on.

If one was American, flying at half-staff would be more appropriate.

When reading the article I was thinking to myself "why didnt he fly it at half-staff?". And also, I have a few friends from Guatemala and one night we were out drinking and some a-hole called my friend Omar a Mexican. He got really mad, but I have to point out its funny I have never been mistaken for a Canadian but Im not sure I'd be terribly upset, I would just say "no, sorry, thats my next door nieghbor". Omar says its an insult: so I told him he was prejudice. tee hee.

I could see that in most instances, but to fly a Canadian flag to honor you or a loved one like you described earlier might be a different issue.

You're absolutley right. Im getting off the point again. It is either the loss of blood or the fact that Im quitting the cigarettes and havent had one in over 30 hours.

Hang in there! You can do it. I'll try to be more gentle. :)
