John McCririck, the horse racing pundit, has lost his age discrimination employment claim against Channel 4.

Mr McCririck, 73, said he was sacked from his high-profile role on Channel 4 Racing by "anonymous suits and skirts" as part of a drive to hire younger faces. He was dropped in 2012 when the station unveiled a new presenting team headed by Clare Balding, 42. He had worked for the channel since it started covering racing in 1984.

But a Central London Employment Tribunal panel ruled against him.

In its judgment, the panel said: "All the evidence is that Mr McCririck's pantomime persona, as demonstrated on the celebrity television appearances, and his persona when appearing on Channel 4 Racing, together with his self-described bigoted and male chauvinist views were clearly unpalatable to a wider potential audience.

"The tribunal is satisfied that the respondent had the legitimate aim of attracting a wider audience to horseracing."

Having endured this clown on Channel 4 racing years, It was actually because of him, I paid out for Sky Sports. He knew nothing about the sport, the bloodlines, the form, whatever, he very often just repeated what the other pundits and bookies had to say. Many like me, actually switched off Channel 4 because of him... Good riddance to him !!! Also, having worked most race courses In the country at some point, I can say without question that he was loathed by bookmakers and course staff.

I'm suprised he was tolerated for so long. A loathsome individual who harks back to the days of the caveman. No class and no manners

The man Is a failure from day one.

During the days betting was Illegal, he worked for an Illegal Bookmaker before he became a Bookmaker himself which again he failed at. Then he went Into Tic Tac.

Having said that, during his days as a racing journalist for The Sporting Life, he was popular and Informative but he was sacked shortly after. Then he joined The Daily Star In the 80's but again was sacked.

By all accounts, when he first reported for Channel 4 from the betting rings, he was quite charming but became too up himself and was rude to anyone who didn't agree with him and he put down women on courses.

He got too big for himself and believed Channel 4 Racing was all about him. Biggest mistake he ever made. UK Horse Racing Is about one thing and that's the horses.

I'm not alone In saying that It was most annoying having him hog the camera's at big race meetings rather than show us what we all wanted to see which was the horses, jockey's and trainers.

This gives you an Idea of why he was so loathed by race-goers.
