Commuter who told Asian man to 'f*** off to your own country' in Tube outburst caught on camera is found NOT GUILTY | Mail Online
How strange. I'd have thought given the conviction of Emma West, that this rant was actually racist.
Having said that, I am pleased she was found not guilty If only because It'll teach those who verbally abuse us for wearing our poppies a lesson.

You might want a fuller context than you get with the daily mail.

He said something about blood on my hands for invading his country. He took offence to me wearing a poppy. It was against women in general and he definitely used the word ‘slag’.
“I was drunk. He was insulting me and my country. I lost it. I felt threatened, I was on my own, I was the only woman in the carriage and I wanted to come across like I wasn’t scared.
You will note it was a jury trial. If anything she was the one being threatened and intimidated as a lone woman being picked on by someone who thinks women should not lead their own lives. Imagine if it had been someone less self confident than this particular woman. Emma west was a different situation. On the other hand calling someone a drunken slag is an attitude not confined to ethnic minorities.

I see your point.
Funny because my judge convicted me for ' losing It ' as he put It. In his full summing up he said he sympathised but I was an adult and should have acted like one.
Immediately after, my defence lawyer said we should have gone for self defence Instead. It's all very well anyone saying how they would have handled the situation on the day but when you are suddenly surrounded by 25 plus youths screaming and shouting abuse at you, all male with one exception, It's a different story. Even an Independent adult witness gave evidence to say he did not Intervene because the situation was so frightening at the time. So I can absolutely Identify with her situation on the tube. Sometimes you show aggression not because you are an aggressive person but more self preservation.
Sadly, more and more people wearing Poppies are being abused In the street and on public transport. I do a two week stint every year and depending on what supermarket I am selling In, depends on the abuse. The worst we ever encountered was In Tesco's In Easton, Bristol where we were also told we had blood on our hands.

Maybe you could explain that point of remembrance day is not celebrating the military per se but remembering those who have fallen and the futility of war in the name of blind patriotism and remember not to fall for it again. As a kid I remember wondering why so many people were in tears during the cenotaph ceremonies - for my parents and grandparents it was still an open wound.
The sight of blair and cameron trying to make it simply a patriotic event is enough to make anyone sick and rather misses the point of it all. As to the blood on our hands brigade maybe you should point out the millions of indian and (what became) pakistani troops who also died in the two world wars in all the theatres are they really suggesting we forget? If there is one peculiarly british characteristic I would say it's the propensity to put two fingers up to those in authority and tell critics to go take a running F--- at themselves. In the interests of preventing a confrontation I suggest you say something along the lines of I am glad you are using the freedom of speech living in britain means you can take for granted and i wish you every success in finding someone who cares what you think. Or perhaps "well we did have an empire what makes you think it was a voluntary organisation?" We are just better at warfare than you lot.
Being tolerant isn't a sign of weakness, quite the contrary in fact, it also doesn't mean you will not put up with any crap.

I like that !!!
I'm always accompanied by war vets who despite age and disability still possess the Dunkirk spirit.
Sadly, the Tesco I mentioned, Is the one supermarket where we have to chain the poppy tins to the tables and have a security guard near by. In recent years one of the security guards orchestrated the perfect flying tackle In the car park when some scroat grabbed the tins and legged It.
I think the best confrontation I witnessed In that supermarket was when a little girl of around 8 years old of Indian origin Insisted I give her a poppy and pin It on her coat which I wasn't happy with, There was no sign of a parent but the kid was becoming a bloody nuisence, throwing poppies on the floor, trampling them and just kept on and on so eventually I pinned the poppy to her lapel. Within minutes a woman, the parent appreared and Insisted we had ruined her coat with the pin prick and demanded £40 compensation. We treated It as a joke but she was gathering a crowd screaming and shouting at us until one of the war vets with me, aged 96 years old and a retired police detective told her to F*** off adding ' £40 for that coat ? I wouldn't give you 50 pence for that piece of s.hit now do one will you?. He got a round of applause :wah:
Yet, talk to any war vet and you'll find most of them are not happy with current wars being associated with the Poppy.
