Freezer, on the top or on the bottom?

Post by valerie »

Hubs and I thinking of getting a new fridge and were

considering one with freezer on the bottom, to have

the most used part higher up... easier on my aging

back when pulling out 8 pound gallons of milk!

Which do you prefer? Caveats?

Thanks.

Freezer, on the top or on the bottom?

Post by LarsMac »

I have one with the freezer on the bottom.

I like it. Only problem I have is the ice maker being on the bottom section. It is a bit clumsy.

We have had both kinds. When we had to replace our refrigerator, we went back to the freezer on top. Having the freezer on the bottom was like having a small chest freezer. Things seemed to get lost or forgot about in it.

I had read that the bottom freezer was more energy efficient so I insisted we get one way back when but I don't remember liking it much. It's been so long ago that I don't remember the specifics, but the layout was awkward.

I prefer a bottom freezer. I am quite tall but for eg my Mother at just 5 ft would struggle to see Into the top drawers of a top freezer.

I have a silver American style fridge freezer... love It.

Bottom freezer is too much bending over as in a chest freezer.

Our freezer is a up right.

Thanks for the input, everybody.

I think we're going to go at least look at

some tomorrow, looking online is a bit

difficult to imagine what the fridge is

REALLY like!

What Wisey said. That's like mine, both fridge and freezer are full height and the ice-maker is at worktop level.

We have one of those, now. My only complaint with it is that the freezer section is limited. We have to use a separate chest freezer for big meat sections and such.

It looks like this was an option in 1955. I'm not surprised that it didn't catch on but I suppose GE felt it was worth a try!

Love that ad, Tabby!! Never seen those before, either.

The fridge my parents bought 61 years ago, just before

they had me, is still working. Dad says (he's 87) he

wants to see which goes first, the fridge or him!!
