Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Post by tabby »

Happy Labor Day weekend to all of Forum Garden's American members and I hope you have a relaxing and fun time as you take a long break from your labors! :yh_flag

About Labor Day:

~~ The Labor Day holiday was created to pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of the American workers.

~~ Labor Day stems from the labor movements in the 19th century as workers protested long hours, little pay, and young children being forced to work.

~~ The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882.

~~ In 1884, Labor Day was moved to the first Monday in September.

~~ Labor Day was made a Federal holiday in 1894.

I still think of Labor Day primarily as a long weekend marking the end of summer vacation! And a seasonal reminder that it was no longer fashionably acceptable to wear white ... heaven forbid! :yh_party

Well as a homemaker, stuff still needs doing that day,

but I'll enjoy it anyway!

A neighbor from down the street saw me out working in

the yard the other day, and came over and invited me to

her Sunday BBQ. It will be lots of fun... I went to her son's

graduation party back in June and had a lovely time. I'm

going to cut a large vase of my zinnias for a hostess gift!

I don't have any plans except to avoid the roads and tourist attractions for the weekend.

Hubby and I will be working on Labor Day..as usual. Our company has been stingy with our holidays the last few years. However, we do get holiday pay plus regular work hours.

A three day weekend would have been nice.

We've been invited to a cook-out Sunday.

Head down to the river w/beer. Hopefully come back from the river with some catfish as a side to the beef I am cooking over an open flame for burritos.

Home grown cantaloupe, watermelon.

Friends and beer.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

Is American Labor day (spelled wrongly by the way) the equivelant to our May day?

May Day used to be a national holiday until somebody (forget who) reckoned it was too politically charged and changed it to Spring Bank Holiday.

The May day holiday originated as a pagan fertility festival but like so many other pagan festivals had been pinched by the christian church. It marked the beginning of summer the american labor day seems to celebrate the end of summer.

Maybe they just don't see a socialist connotation to it?:-3

Some corny holiday humor ... and I do mean corny!

Daughter (8): Is Aunty Diane having her baby today?

Mother: Why did you think she is about to give birth?

Daughter (8): Because you said today was Labor Day!

The United Auto Workers union decided 2013 would be a good year to get ariel photos of possible burial sites for Jimmy Hoffa.

They figured that since Michigan just became a Right-To-Work state, he probably rolled over in his grave.

Father: Do you know, most people don't have to work today, because it's Labor Day.

Son: If people are not working, shouldn't we call today 'No-Labor Day?'

Did you hear the one about Labor Day?

It works for me!

Some Quotes:

If all the cars in the United States were placed end to end, it would probably be Labor Day Weekend. (Doug Larson)

'It's a recession when your neighbor loses his job; it's a depression when you lose your own.' (Harry S. Truman

Hard work never killed anybody, but why take a chance? (Edgar Bergen)

Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in America. If I'm not there, I go to work. (Robert Orben)

Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell 'em, "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it.' (Theodore Roosevelt)

I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it. (Thomas Jefferson)

All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence. (Martin Luther King Jr.)

A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving. (Albert Einstein)

There is no labor a person does that is undignified; if they do it right. (Bill Cosby)

Thunder is good, thunder is impressive; but it is lightning that does the work. (Mark Twain)

Yes, it really does! Nothing special on this end except a cook-out later this afternoon. We're grilling Italian sausages on the grill in lieu of hot dogs ... tried it over the 4th of July and they were so good!
