51 states? maybe a new trend?

Post by LarsMac »

So, some of the more rural counties of Colorado want to be a new state.

Rural Colorado county commissioners are pursuing a plan to splinter from the state and create a new one in the aftermath of a legislative session they say runs counter to their way of life.

Laws passed this year in the Democrat-controlled Legislature enacting stricter gun control and impacting agriculture paired with attempts to expand regulation of oil and gas production to provide the tipping point, according to Sean Conway, a commissioner in Weld County, which is leading the charge to ask voters in November whether to form a new state.

No dog in that fight, but not all that strange a concept.

Suggestions of splitting Northern and Southern California are a matter of history.

Fact is Northern California won the whole state.

Starting with the Constitution, the separatists in Colorado would have a long road to hoe.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

Political posturing. Conway looks like a preacher.

West Virginia seceded from Virginia for similar reasons and there were no long term repercussions felt on either side.

I saw this map & proposal a few weeks ago and remembered it after reading this post. I was able to go back and find it so here it is ~~~~~> Electoral college reform (fifty states with equal population) / fake is the new real

I'd be living in the new state of Shenandoah. I don't see it happening but I do find it interesting to speculate!

A bunch of sore losers. We didn't get it our way, so instead of going with the majority of our fellow Americans, we want our own little area. Well, first they have to get all the counties to vote for it, then the Colorado state legislature (the one they think isn't on their side) will have to vote for it, then the Congress (who have NO intention of going for that) will have to pass it.

Since nobody has accomplished that since before the Civil War in 1860, I don't think this is anything other than whiney attention-getting behavior.

LOL! Why would they name my district "Shiprock?!!" Shiprock is a dusty, backwards, tiny little reservation town with the population of a large campground. Why not Albuquerque?

Why did North and South Carolina split

Why did North Dakota and South Dakota split

No, I meant there were no long term repercussions. The casualty toll for the Civil War was not caused by the split between these two states so I don't know why you would toss that into the discussion. If anything, it sheltered the West Virginians from much of the physical brunt of the war. The issues were many between the Virginia regions and had been brewing for many decades prior to the Civil War.

They didn't split up. The Carolinas were separate colonies from the early days.

The Dakotas were formed at the same time out of the Dakota territory.

So the idea continues.

Secession vote cleared for ballots in Weld County

I think that as a political statement, it is a worthwhile activity to get the attention of the Colorado Legislature, but the idea is ludicrous.

The whole region has so little to offer in resources, they would quickly supplant Mississippi as the poorest state in nearly every category.
