A stepping stone to something even further

The phrase caught my eye.MPs get a free vote on the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill because it is considered an issue of conscience and many Conservative MPs spoke out against the principle of gay marriage.

Former defence minister Sir Gerald Howarth said the plans were "divisive" and suggested there are plenty of people "in the aggressive homosexual community who see this as but a stepping stone to something even further".

BBC News - Gay marriage: Deal to allow bill to proceed in Parliament

I have racked my brain to no avail. Help me out - what might "something even further" consist of?

Gay marriage is like a gateway drug, it can lead to sex with horses and rabbits. At the same time.

The fear, it seems, is that when gay marriage is unleashed, hetero couples will no longer hold marriage as sacred, and take their vows seriously.

hmmm.

If not, then It's a topical news swipe.

You may be delighted to know that In tonights edition, the exact same question was raised to the panel as you have raised here..

"The aggressive homosexual community who see this as but a stepping stone to something even further" was briefly discussed until they agreed with the suggestion that It meant " Bumming on the national curriculum ".
