Ahso!;1427956 wrote: White Rabbit is a good tune in that it's a bit haunting musically, and it was the theme song for the movie Go Ask Alice. But, really, the lyrics are not all that good if you ask me. It appears to be a song written and performed by teenagers about drug use with some references to Alice In Wonderland. I really think what's been made of the song was just as surprising to Jefferson Airplane as it was to anyone else. That happens to musical tunes sometimes.

Many people have made that same connection over the years. However, I assure you that there was more to the song than what most people made of it.

At least according to what the guys in Hot Tuna once said over a keg in Atlanta one night.

But then, I was tripping, so I may have dreamed it all up, too.

When I saw the artists' names, I thought, "This will be easy" but confess to being somewhat surprised.

Harder choice than I figured.

Still, I gotta go with Sir Paul.

Though, Iggy could take my vote against some of the other choices we've had, if I never have to watch that video again.

Wow! Interesting matchup. I normally would not have chosen either. After listening to / viewing both specific versions, I'm going to totally surprise myself. I would actually vote for Iggy on this one, if I turned the video off and was just listening. Whoa! Say it isn't so! I can't say that I have ever considered Iggy Pop as a serious rock musician before. I think I need to be drug tested....

Lust for Life !

I really enjoyed the movie "Trainspotting" and afterwards bought the soundtrack which I've been enjoying ever since. I don't think there's a song on there that isn't good and it was all so perfect for the movie!

So, I'm thinking, I really like Lennon, and I really like "Imagine"

But,...

Not sure it qualifies as a "Rock" piece.

If we are looking for the top ten Rock songs, then does this really meet the specs?

I dunno.

I will vote, grudgingly, for "Vehicle"

This is easy for me. Imagine, despite its sentiments, is a dirge to me. Vehicle, while maybe not rock in the strictest sense - maybe a fusion - brings the 70's back to life for me.

Another tough one. Which one of these I would choose would depend on my mood at that very moment. In my playlists, I usually have Imagine in the folk music catagory and Vehicle in classic rock.

Okay, I flipped a coin. Imagine got heads, so I choose Imagine.

In its early days, Rock had all the elements we see in "Vehicle"

Horns and Sax were as much a part of the music as guitar and bass.

With Dave Mason on acoustic guitar. If I recall the story correctly, the two went to a recording studio late one night after a party to record the song. Hendrix laid down the tracks for vocals, lead guitar, bass and drums.

All Along the Watchtower is one of those songs. Dylan, Hendrix, Richie Havens, U2, Perl Jam, Dave Matthews, Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, Dave Mason, Springsteen, Grateful Dead, Allman Bros, Neil Young, Taj Mahal, and even string quartets and symphony orchestras have done their versions. I love listening to the variations, but Hendrix will alway be my favorite.
