Really surprising. Maybe the internet has made gun crimes appear more prevalent than before.

What I think I find most disturbing about this is that the media chose not to inform us of gun violence for all those years. The fact that it was actually worse than we're witnessing today is really alarming. The gun lobby had done a super job keeping us ignorant for far too long. Their days are numbered, the only question is how big a number that is.

Also the 24 hour cable news cycle. I shouldn't even know the name Jodi Arias. Or Casey Anthony either. Or the thousands of so-called "celebrities", which reminds me of Kardashians.

Three times the number of folks died in car accidents as compared to gun related homicides.

It's scary to think of what gun related crime was 20 years ago. I didn't have a clue.

If we weren't scared 20 years ago, why should we be more scared now?

I took it as one worth pondering, though I forgot you're a schoolteacher and expect right/wrong answers on the spot. Perhaps revisiting the exchange in about six years might help?

I doubt you will have formed the balls to have a respectful conversation by then, so no.

It's not conversation you seek, it's competition.

A lot of that depends on where you live. Live in a big city, it's news you need to know. In rural areas not so much.

This is an interesting video I don't remember posting here before,
