One thing that a lot of people don't know is that when the gold Oscar

statuettes are given out... they are "blanks" and all the winners have to

ship them back afterwards to have their names put on them! That way, there

is far less chance of (as in the case a few years back when a whole

shipment was stolen) anyone finding out ahead of time who the actual

winners are!

It is all a self promotion for the industry.

Nothing wrong with that.

A great commercial event as participants parade by wearing and interviewed about the latest expensive fashions promoting the designers.

Sure there are many other entities which profit, non the less which the local Chamber of Commerce promotes.

Win Win all around.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

welcome

World cinema is anything that's not in english, or put another way foreign language films. Probably says a lot about the mind set of the english speaking world. We're not so bad in the UK as we will watch films with subtitles whereas Americans have to remake them like they did for the girl with the dragon tattoo and let the right one in (both swedish) . The killing (danish) was a cult hit here, they have remade that in english for the american market. Pity really, it's the cultural differences that make it more interesting, plus I think having to read subtitles means you get more engrossed. Haven't seen a french film for ages.

Cinema - a french creation many Americans think they invented.

I believe the OP said "world of cinema" not world cinema... a difference there.

And I don't know where in the heck you get many Americans think they invented it.

But that's just more of the anti-American bias showing, I can tell.

Subtitles are far less engrossing for me. A lot of times it's because I can tell what

is printed is NOT exactly what was said. (Spanish, for example)

I was being facetious or if you prefer taking the piss. Why is it Americans take everything so seriously - It does get a bit wearing. Besides world cinema may be a term anaelle is unfamiliar with. There's an awful lot out there in the world of cinema and the Oscars and the like is just part of it.

Yeah, right. Tell me you were being facetious yet directly after,

throwing in another anti-American comment. With an added

'tutorial' slam insinuating that I couldn't possibly know about

what is out there.

You know I wasn't even addressing you the first time. I gave you a polite reply in response to your post but if you want to go around seeing everything as anti-american and can't tell when someone is taking the piss that is your problem not mine. It really doesn't do you any credit and besides if I was just being anti-american I'm hardly likely to be put off - not when you would be so easy to wind up. :D

But you are addressing every reader, really. I don't go

around seeing everything as anti-American, but there has

historically (and currently) been a veritable f**kton of it

here, and I'm far from the only one to have made note of it.

I usually try to read for comprehension and that tells me exactly

what you are doing, that's how you come off and whether or

not you care, which I'm sure you don't, at least I stood up and

said something so all the other readers who come through here

will know someone called you on it.

I do it VERY rarely simply for lack of time to devote to something

like this, so you aren't winding me up, I'm very serene about the

whole thing.

I'm very secure in my "credit" thank you very much.
