David Roentgen's Automaton of Queen Marie Antoinette

Beautiful! I wonder how long it would have taken to create this from beginning to end. I'm glad it's in a museum so that the masses can appreciate it. I would say that she was lucky to be on the receiving end of such a commissioned piece but that sort of opulence didn't help her case later in her life. It's gorgeous though! Not just the mechanics but even her dress is beautifully detailed.

The mechanics and precision boggle my mind.

Very cool Tabby

Are you a doll collector?

A friend of mine was a doll collector & had one of these "automaton"

not of this quality - it was still a good piece for her collection.

Both of these automatons' faces remind me of Meryl Streep for some reason ... I think it may be the smooth fair skin as much as anything. Lovely!

Patsy, I'm not a doll collector. The only doll I own is a Madame Alexander Scarlett O'Hara doll that was given to me as a child. She's wearing the green dress & straw hat that Scarlett wore to the party at Twelve Oaks at the beginning of the film. I wasn't allowed to actually "play" with it so it's still in mint condition. She's a beaut!

This is the dress she's wearing:

You should display her - under a protective cover of course.

I got a Madame Alexander doll for my 11th birthday, she was stunning. I've looked online many times for photos but I can never find her. This is probably the closest but mine was in red velvet.

On the shoulders of folk who displayed such precision, we sent a man to the Moon, and accomplish so much in the modern world.

Nothing new, really.

Humans do it all the time, and we always amaze ourselves.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.
