Roger Ebert Dead

Post by Saint_ »

Well, I'm certainly feeling old this week. Seems like all the famous names of my generation are dropping dead. Margaret Thatcher, of course, but now I read that Roger Ebert is dead as well.

I'm not sure how much my British and European friends will know about him, but he was instrumental, as one of the first of the MTV generation of movie critics, in influencing American Pop Culture. He was one of the team of "Siskel and Ebert - At The Movies." He, along with Gene Siskel, hosted a show that was certainly one of the most high profile movie critic shows ever. The famous "Two Thumbs Up" became almost a guarantee of success for a movie.

personally, I always went with Roger's opinion over Gene Siskel's since Roger seemed to enjoy movies for sheer pleasure more than Gene. Gene seemed to nitpick a bit much for me.

The show became, "Ebert and Roeper - At the Movies" after Gene died. And I think Roeper is still doing it by himself since Roger got sick with cancer. But I'm not sure. Anyone know?

I loved watching Siskel and Ebert, they were informative and funny. I'll miss him.

I was a big fan of "Siskel and Ebert ". What I thought was funny they didn't really care for each other at all.

I lost interest in the show when Roeper came aboard.

It was one of the few shows (aside from 60 minutes) that i hated to miss.
