Final Selections...

Post by Oscar Namechange »

I am not the only one who's been driven to distraction by late declarations and dithering from trainers and owners as to which of the races the big guns will stake their claims In.... even now, just 2 days away, there are some yet to be declared and withdrawn .

This tends to happen when the Festival see's big guns staking a claim In more than one race and trainers waiting and waiting to see who withdraws what so they can get their horse Into the race where they stand most chance of securing a win but for punters like me, It's so frustrating.

Most of them seem set so now I can state my final choices....

AP McCoy has said today that he believes there will be an upset at the Festival to the big guns and some surprises produced If the ground goes from soft to heavy.

That's It folks... I will either return victorious or suitably embarrassed..... just to say I predict the Champion Trainer will be Nicky Henderson.

This Is the culmination of watching these buggers for the past year...

McCoy may be right... If the ground goes heavy, there could be some upsets, hence some of my bets being long shots.

Here's last years closer again and a look at some of the horses I have napped.

For those of you who believe horses are forced to race, then errrr no.... this Is what they do If they are simply not In the mood on the day.....

In the Download the Paddy Power App Chase Yesterday , Alvarado decided enough was enough and pulled himself up just before the last.

Sadly he didn't let jockey Paul Moloney know and Paul found himself on top of the fence!

Thanks Racingfotos for this brilliant pic...... click to enlarge

I often wonder if the amount of research Oscar puts into these runners is worth the effort only to see days like this where she completely spanks the bookmakers.

Day one and Carlito Brigante and Opening Batsman were non runners, money refunded. The Cross Country Chase was abandoned and will be run thursday instead. Out of the four predictions that were left, Oscar predicted all four winners here. Simonsig, Champagne Fever, Hurricane Fly and Quevega all won .

Just two winners for Oscar on day two. The New One and Sprinter Sacre who won by nineteen lengths. It would have been three winners but Boston Bob three lengths clear fell at the last fence. Cotton Mill was a non runner.

A day of places for Oscar on day three. A winner on Cue Card but Hunt Ball, Smad Place, Alfie Sherrin , First Lieutenant and Dynaste all placed. Still, not bad forecasting. Carlito Brigante a non runner in the extra race.

A day of drama with one dead horse and the last race running late due to an air ambulance having to land on the track for one of the jockeys. A.P McCoy had a face on him after vets refused his mount to run and a false start in one of the races when Mad Moose refused to run. The restart saw Mad Moose refuse a second time. Paddy Brennan incurred a nine day ban for overuse of the whip which apparently means he will not be able to ride Sir Des Champ in the Gold Cup. There is a rumour that A.P. McCoy will switch from Sunny Hill Boy to ride Sir which could upset the betting. What do i know? I'm under instructions to take notes, otherwise i haven't a clue what i'm talking about.

It was unlucky that Silviniaco Conti fell in the Gold Cup after doing so well but another good day for Oscar on the final day. At Fishers Cross, Salsify and Alderwood all won.

In total, Oscar gave 10 winners and 5 places in her predictions. That is unarguably brilliant forecasting.

Highlight of the festival had to be Sprinter Sacre beating the champion Sizing Europe by 19 lengths, no whip drawn, barely out of a canter and never off the bit.... absolutely astonishing just a slap on the neck as he went to the line by jockey Barry Geraghty .... a feat so outstanding It saw trainer Nicky Henderson crying as he went over the line.

Some Info came to light that Is more astonishing from an Interview with Henderson's buyer Minty..... apparently Sprinter Sacre Is the bizarre result after a horrendous mix up where the wrong Mare went to the Sire... as a result he was sold In a job lot of 25 horses to Minty for Henderson.... In among them they found they had an absolute brute on their hands.... that's stuff dreams are made of...

The other outstanding performance had to be the tiny little Mare Quevega who was looking to be make history by winning the Mare's Hurdle 5 years on the bounce.... hearts In mouths by the 2nd last fence, way behind, she had sooooo much to do.
