What a nice guy this Cop proved to be......

Why did this Police officer need to buy these boots out of his own pocket ?

Are there no agencies available in New York for such circumstances ?

This evidently took place right near a shoe store. It was cold and the man needed shoes for his feet. Why go through all the "red tape"? The cop just wanted to help..right then and there.

I am not knocking the cop, it was a marvelous thing to do.

I just want to know how anyone can end up totally barefoot in the Big Apple, no tattered soulless battered and worn shoes/boots/trainers, but no footwear at all.

Was the guy a drunk or addict or homeless and why are there no do-gooder charities touring around that town ?

Yes, the guy was homeless, and possibly a drunk, or addict, or psychologically "impaired" in some fashion.

Yes, there are agencies and charities around the City, but there are a lot of homeless, often impaired in some fashion, who easily fall through the cracks.

And I have to say, there are homeless who might have indeed had shoes,

but sell them to someone for money for other items.

So......I wasn't leading here, but a cop buying a down and out some nice new boots is probably only feeding his habit, whatever that might be.

Far better to take him off the street and into some sort of program ?

My experience, a lot of them won't go into programs. They cling to their

alcoholism (or whatever else) and don't want to give up their independence.

Really sad, as I see no way around that kind of thing.

Well Bruv, I hate to say it, but I just saw a report tonight on the news that

the homeless man is indeed shoeless again, he sold the boots apparently.

I can't find a report to give a link to, but if one shows up in the next

couple of days, I'll post it.

Yeah, I wasn't going to bring that up.

In a city like NY, you'd better be prepared to defend your stuff.

A new pair of shoes would be worth a lot.
