Twinkies bakers say they'd rather lose jobs than take pay cuts - Yahoo! News

35K is still more than what a lot of people make working regular hours let alone overtime..

I have no sympathy for either side.. they only thing that they did 'collectively' was bring down yet another company. You misunderstood what the article said. "They're just taking from us," said Kenneth Johnson, 46, of Missouri. He said he earned roughly $35,000 with overtime last year, down from about $45,000 five years agoEmphasis mine. His income has decreased by ten thousand dollars annually over the course of five years.

I feel like people are misinterpreting me. I'm not "siding" with management/ownership. There's ample evidence here to show they were idiots. It's clear to me now that it wasn't union demands that pushed them over.

When I read up on Trump, some months ago, I learned that bankruptcy isn't the terrible end-all in the business world that we think it is (it's not in personal finances, either, but that's a different thread). Many businesses use it to clear their books, and see it as a legitimate tool for saving money. Morally disgusting, I know. Anyway, the bonuses and other stupid spending might have been to position the company better for bankruptcy.

I'm wondering what's the union's interest in this, if the company's closing. Do they think they're negotiating with the people who will own the company after the bankruptcy? Are they working in the employees' interests, or does the union leadership stand to profit from the company's closing? These are the questions I'd like to have answers to.

Personally, I'd like to see the employees take over the company as a co-op and share the profits, even if it's not as successful as the old Hostess brand.

While watching the elite executives reward themselves generously for running the company into the ground. Now, their pensions for working there their entire lives are likely to disappear. The venture firms get to sell off the product names and recipes and walk away with the cash.

I like that idea. A lot.
